Create and deliver technical solutions
The individual assumes the role of technology, service or business expert ('guru') possessing the ability to design complex system solutions across many technologies, services and business processes. The technically focused Solutions Manager demonstrates the ability to produce innovative and leading designs which are vendor agnostic and require a broad understanding of technology. They are able to interact and co-operate with vendors at high levels of complexity. The Solutions Manager demonstrates strong business acumen including: marketing (addressing industry events, customer function engagements, road shows and authoring white papers or publication features), financials (ROI, TCO etc.) and technology review and recommendation (engaging with vendors and technology institutions). The individual acts as trusted advisor to the client through demonstrating an understanding of the client’s requirements and expertise in the relevant technologies.
Project financing, business negotiation and solution positioning skills are required to ensure the viability and quality assurance of a project. The individual holds overall technical responsibility for a proposed technical solution and will work with internal colleagues to define the roadmap and milestones. They demonstrate the ability to provide an overall high-level design of technical or service solutions for complex business situations. They play an active role in enhancing current solution concepts or creating new ones. They are key project team members charged with the analysis of user and technical requirements, specifications development, solution design and development and in some environments may consult on testing and deployment processes. He/she demonstrates project management ability and can apply and maintain these abilities to work on particular technical projects that assist the client in fulfilling their information technology needs. They are required to work on multiple projects at the same time.
Provide problem management
In the case of an advanced and complex solution problem arising, the individual may be called upon to problem manage the team.
As a ‘guru’, mentorship of engineers and consultants is provided to encourage their professional growth. This may include developing technical training materials and conducting training programs and educating engineers on basic technical details. The individual proactively provides experience in practically improving Dimension Data systems, services and operational processes.
The individual's performance is consistent and mature, providing high quality and service. The individual has vast amounts of technical experience and maintains the overall technical quality assurance and integrity of complex solutions.
Provide pre-sales support
The Solutions Manager will deal directly with the customer (up to CXO level), primarily in high-level design and proposal activities, versus configuration and at times installation activities. They provide assistance to Pre-Sales and are involved in pre-sales processes within high complexity customer environments. They display strong client service orientation and strive for client engagement. Solutions Managers assist the Sales Team with the evaluation and activation of new accounts.
At this level the Solutions Manager displays persuasive and confident presentation, writing and report/proposal ability. The Solution Manager displays good interpersonal skills and is able to work well in a team. They have strong technical, quantitative and analytical skills. They are able to motivate a team of Solution Specialists to ensure optimal performance.
The individual will be expected to leverage a deep level of business understanding. They are expected to be technology leads for specific technologies and to use their deep knowledge of these technologies to propose enhancements and improvements.
The Solutions Manager requires a high level of technical ability and education (certificate, diploma or degree level) with respect to market, verticals, horizontals, business administration and business change.
Required Work Experience:
At least 10 years’ experience across multiple domains
Project management experience
Demonstrated experience working with clients to understand their requirements and define appropriate solutions
