Title: H & S Manager Location: South West The Position: * Maintain and continue to develop the company Health and Safety Policy for the site in consultation with the General Manager and appropriate Managers. * Produce and ensure completion of key tasks in relation to this policy such as SOPS, Risk Assessments etc. Ensure they are all completed in a timely fashion to a high standard. * Ensure all employees in the business are inducted in Health and Safety site standards and expectations. * Develop and maintain a training matrix for all employees to ensure appropriate training on machines is up to date. To ensure the appropriate Managers and Supervisors update the training matrix in a timely and consistent manner and escalate any training needs to the H+S Manager. * To build and deliver health & safety and food safety training to all employees in all areas of the site. * To manage and maintain all paperwork and databases relating to training records. * Record and assess all accidents and near misses for any key learning points or actions that need to be followed up. Report all work place accidents to the company insurers and complete all required RIDDOR reports. * Ensure fire safety is managed effectively; responsibility for training wardens, regular testing, conducting timed drills and making sure extinguishers are maintained. * Ensure that key managers and employees are clear on what their responsibilities are in relation to Health and Safety through hosting monthly health and safety committee meetings. To monitor outcomes to ensure adherence. * To provide assistance and training to managers if necessary to reach the required standards. * To proactively improve Health and Safety levels to agreed targets. * To accurately record all H+S breaches and take immediate and decisive action as necessary within your scope. * Complete monthly reports for the senior management meeting to include the company’s Health and Safety statistics and update on key actions. To provide other reporting as necessary. * Ensure the engineering and facilities department have up to date paperwork for all contractors that attend site. * Escalate any concerns in relation to Health and Safety to General Manager immediately. * To take responsibility for environmental issues on site such as, liaison with the Water Authority on safe water disposal and overall safe presentation of the site. * You will be asked to undertake ad hoc duties as required by the needs of the business as they arise. * Keep up to date with new legislation and maintain a working knowledge of all HSE legislation and any developments that will affect the food industry. * Liaise as appropriate with the HSE. The Person: Essential * Excellent working knowledge of relevant legislative criteria and industry standards for food production. * HACCP (UK standards) * Fire Warden (UK) * COSHH trained with a good working knowledge of chemicals and hygiene equipment. * NEBOSH Certificate Desirable - Internal Auditing experience and knowledge, NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent * Open approach, engaging staff with a significant presence on the factory floor * Effective problem solving and analysis * Ability to work as part of wider management team to make effective changes in the business. * Resilience and tenacity.Ability to champion and communicate health and safety to all levels of operatives and managers. * Ability to recognise gaps in health and safety coverage on all sites and situations.
