What is this role?



We are a UK headquartered fast-paced international Company, looking for an HR Business Partner for our German operations.  You will work closely with the local management team, as well as functional leaders based outside of Germany, to support the business needs of the Company.  In addition you will be part of a Global HR team working on various projects such as diversity and inclusion and helping employees adapt to a remote and digital workplace.  We have approximately 200 employees in Germany, with offices in Stuttgart, Munich and Leipzig, but due to the current pandemic, the majority continue to work from home, although the ability to travel to these locations from time to time, could be desirable in the future.

We are looking for a hands-on HR Generalist with specific and recent experience of German Employment Law to own operational HR for German employees, working with managers, employees and three German works councils.  This role is part of a wider EMEA and Global HR team, and this role reports to the Senior Director, Human Resources (based in the UK).   The role can be located anywhere in Germany as the majority of our employees continue to work from home due to the pandemic.  This role has two direct reports – an Associate HR Business Partner for Germany and an Office Manager based in Stuttgart.  Together with an HR Consultant who is a Works Council strategist, this role is also responsible for owning the relationship with the three works councils, helping resolve issues they raise in a timely manner, and building up trust with them to be able to secure their approvals on any new processes that the Company wishes to implement.  This requires building up relationships with various business functions outside of Germany, such as IT and Finance, to be able to find out information to be able to share with the works councils.



Responsibilities:



  • Providing guidance and support on all HR matters to managers (who may be located outside of Germany), employees and other departments within the Company.

  • Executing on HR processes and policies, based on knowledge of German employment law and local practices.

  • Ensuring that our HR activities are compliant with legal obligations.

  • Building up a co-operative and trusting relationship and good communication with our three German works councils, with the support of local management and global specialist HR functions, and driving forward the completion of shop agreements and securing approvals in order for the Company to implement change,

  • Coordinating and providing input for the monthly payroll process with our external provider.

  • Offer 'open door' and provide advice to employees on work related issues with friendliness, empathy and professionalism.

  • Maintain HRIS and other systems to maintain data integrity

  • Drive improvements to data privacy and retention in our HR processes related to GDPR.

  • Work closely with our centres of excellence in Talent Acquisition, Global Total Rewards and Talent development to help locally communicate our global HR projects such as career framework and annual salary review process

  • Support other ad-hoc projects in Germany and globally including those related to mergers and acquisitions, payroll and HRIS.

Requirements:



  • Clear communicator in written and spoken English and German, confident at presenting and experienced at having difficult conversations on sensitive subjects in both languages.

  • Demonstrable experience of HR generalist work in Germany gained with an international business where multiple functional leaders exist in various countries around the world.

  • Experience of mergers and acquisition processes would be highly desirable.

  • Someone who keeps up to date with changes in German Employment law and best practices,

  • Experienced at writing policies with an interest in diversity, inclusion and mental health

  • Hands on experience of owning employee relations cases including termination processes, capability and performance and disciplinary cases.

  • Strong customer service skills – all employees and managers are our customers

  • Friendly, approachable and empathetic with good listening skills and ability to be a trusted advisor to first line managers.

  • Team player able to build strong relationships across boundaries.

  • Good attention to detail and ability to check the work of others.

  • Ability to mentor and help assist the personal development of other team members
