Manages the environmental, industrial, health and safety regulation compliance for a facility. Oversees the development, planning, and implementation of environmental, health and safety policies; develops procedures (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention, and building safety) used throughout the site. Ensures compliance with regulations pertaining to environmental safety and handles all contact with appropriate agencies. Oversees licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal and monitors waste handling. Develops and oversees company training programs for employees in areas such as compliance training, lab/plant inspection, hazardous material handling, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and life safety. May be the point of contact for emergency personnel and manage workers compensation program administration. Ensures appropriate corrective action is taken where health and safety hazards exist. Selects, develops, and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function.
1. Implement, manage and maintain site safety and health programs.
2. Maintain compliance with federal and state OSHA regulations.
3. Manage site's Workers' Compensation program.
4. Interact with insurance carrier, employees, attorneys, physicians and comp commissioners.
5. Manage site environmental compliance.
6. Assure compliance with EPA, DHEC and DOT regulations.
7. Manage site remediation projects, waste treatment and hazardous waste operations.
8. Manage site security operations.
Education: Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
Certification(s): Travel: 1 - 10%
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel small and medium sized components. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and to lift weight or exert force up to 50 pounds. The employee in this position works in an environment where they may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, there is a risk of electrical shock, and there is vibration. The employee may be required to work with toxic or caustic chemicals, may be subject to higher noise levels, or work near moving mechanical parts.
