SVCC is located in a rural setting of rolling hills, pine and hardwood forests, and farmland. There is easy access to nearby metropolitan Richmond, Virginia, the state’s capital, as well as Raleigh, North Carolina, and Lynchburg, Virginia. The area is famous for its two lakes, Gaston and Kerr, and a multitude of state and national parks which offer recreational opportunities such as fishing, boating, skiing, jet-skiing, hiking, horseback riding, picnics, and relaxation. The area also offers sports arenas for baseball, softball, soccer and beautiful golf courses. There are cultural activities including various theaters and arts councils offering concerts, plays, and live entertainment, and there are many local festivals held throughout the year.

SVCC is currently seeking applicants for a 9-month teaching faculty member for the Practical Nursing program located in Alberta and Chase City, VA. The successful candidate must be committed to our mission to provide quality education to a diverse constituency. SVCC’s Practical Nursing Program serves over 50 students in multiple locations including South Boston, Chase City, and Alberta. There are two full-time nursing faculty along with approximately five adjunct nursing faculty. We offer a SimLab for our students and work very closely with local hospitals. Duties include teaching 15 credit hours (day, evening, and/or weekends) per semester at locations served by the college, as well as student advising. Classes taught may be a combination of day, night and/or weekends and may be located on or off campus.

Other duties include participating in professional activities, mentoring adjunct instructors, program development and assessment, and assisting in documentation necessary to meet Virginia Board of Nursing Requirements. The candidate will teach students in the Practical Nursing Program.

Minimum Qualifications

•Master’s degree in nursing

•Minimum of five years clinical experience in Medical Surgical area

•Must hold a current unencumbered Virginia nursing license (or ability to obtain a Virginia License prior to employment)

•Must possess the ability to work effectively with a culturally and educationally diverse student population

•Competency in and dedication to the use of instructional technologies is required

•Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources

•Demonstrated teaching skills

•Excellent communications skills

•An understanding of the community college environment and mission

Preferred Qualifications

•Teaching experience at the college level

•Community college teaching experience

•Familiarity with current Virginia State Board of Nursing guidelines for educational programs
