Job Description Maize USD 266 Kitchen Assistant Food Service Substitutes, Ability to Cashier preferred. 3 to 7 hours per Day.
Current TB Test required.
Purpose Statement The job of Kitchen Assistant is done for the purpose of providing healthy, sanitary, nutritious, and appealing food for the students and staff.
Use the following ratings to evaluate each function:
1 = Meets Expectations 2 = Does Not Meet Expectations N/A = Not Applicable
___1. Prepares healthy, sanitary and appealing food for the purpose of meeting the nutritional needs of students and staff.
___2. Utilizes sound sanitation standards in order to meet all district, state, and federal mandates.
___3. Assists in serving food so that staff and students receive the food in a timely and friendly manner.
___4. Assists in tasks necessary for efficient functioning of the food service program
(e.g. washing dishes, scanning tickets, keeping the kitchen cleaned and organized, etc).
___5. Assists in keeping track of daily inventory, re-stocking supplies, and notifying manager so that the food service program has the necessary resources to function efficiently.
___6. Monitors the temperature of the food, dishwasher, etc. ensuring HACCP Compliance.
___7. Assists other kitchen staff with any task that needs to be completed in order to meet deadlines.
___8. Maintains confidentiality as appropriate in order to comply with district, state and federal laws.
___9. Performs other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the food service program.
___1. Substitutes for the other tasks when a kitchen assistant is absent.
___2. Performs deep cleaning/defrosting tasks in order to maintain an organized, clean, and efficient kitchen.
Minimum Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Basic computer skills
Must be able to work at a fast pace
Basic math skills
Knowledge of state health regulations
High school diploma
Food Safety Basics-State Department of Education
Kitchen experience recommended
Physical Demands, Working Environment
Generally 80% standing and 20% walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
Fine finger dexterity used.
The work environment varies from extremely hot to extremely cold (freezer).
The job is performed under some hazardous conditions.
Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of Education policies and regulations.
• Must be regularly available and willing to work hours determined necessary by the district.

Overtime is not permitted unless approved by employee’s supervisor. Otherwise, the employee may be subject to discipline, up to and including dismissal.
