The Laboratory Automation Engineer is responsible for programming instruments and integrating automation solutions, including software solutions, in a regulated (GxP) environment.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead the design and installation of automation solutions in a regulated bioanalytical laboratory
  • Responsible for assessing operational needs for improving laboratory processes including but not limited to: automated work and data flow (automation) and new analytical platforms
  • Supporting the development and testing of new devices, software, components, and procedures
  • Collaborates with Operations, Information Technology (IT) and Quality Assurance (QA) team members to support regulated (GxP) validation and implementation of automation and data management processes
  • Serve as subject matter expert (SME) for automated laboratory systems in a GxP environment
  • Develop and implement standard training materials and manuals for all automation processes
  • Authors Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)


  • Master's degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, biotechnology, or related field with broad experience in regulated bioanalysis
  • Not less than five years' experience in an automated laboratory environment
  • Skilled in implementation and optimization of automated laboratory processes and data management systems
  • Experienced in Watson LIMS and further validated data management systems
  • In-depth understanding of GLP, GCP / GCLP and/or GMP procedures.


  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.), Watson LIMS, and automated liquid dispensing software.
  • Capability to work under pressure and tight deadlines in a fast-paced team environment
  • Detail oriented and highly organized
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and functional groups
  • Fluency in English is required, fluency in German is desired.
