Job Summary:

The Lead Audio Visual (AV) Technician will be responsible for managing and providing technical expertise and team leadership for all of the UVCC sound, media, video and any other related areas concerning UVCC event production. As the Lead AV Technician, you will be responsible for technical guidance, maintenance of AV equipment, set up and tear down of event related items, proposal creation along with event coverage and management. As the Lead AV Technician you will be responsible to stay abreast of the latest technology trends and audio visual industry best practices.

Job Duties (including, but not limited to):

  • Oversees daily operations of Audio Visual at the UVCC.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, and priorities of assigned programs and functions.
  • Supervises, monitors, and schedules the work of other Audio Visual staff.
  • Plans, implements and performs preventative and routine maintenance on AV equipment.
  • Helps keep an accurate inventory of AV equipment.
  • Participate in the development and administration of the Audio Visual section budget; forecast of additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, and supplies; directly monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary.
  • Work in conjunction with Event Managers on AV specific needs for upcoming functions.
  • Oversees AV setup and tear down of events.
  • Active participant in weekly staff and production meetings.
  • Schedule, direct, and monitor the work of outside contractors in relation to AV services.
  • Assist in development of Capital Improvement Project reports and recommendations for the facility in regards to AV services.
  • Interact with event organizers, vendors and guests to help ensure a positive experience with audio visual and telecommunications.
  • Act as on-site contact for basic IT responsibilities including user support for other staff members.
  • Helps organize and execute appropriate training and programs for all UVCC staff.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.


Knowledge of:

  • Thorough knowledge of AV equipment and best practices.
  • Ability to work under high pressure and work irregular hours as dictated by programming.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge and implementation of customer service techniques.
  • Knowledge and implementation of fire and public safety regulations.
  • Principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation.
  • Ability to work long and irregular hours.
  • Ability to lift and/or move 50 lbs.



  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Audio Visual work, Convention Services (preferably with a convention center, hotel, sports facility, performing arts facility or other multi-purpose public assembly facility) or Meeting Planning.

Education / Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in facility management, hospitality management, marketing, public relations, business management, or other related field. Additional years of experience may be substituted for formal education.

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a current CPR certificate.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain a Utah driver’s license.
