Lead Engineer- Wired Network
Implement and develop data network communication system designs including fiber optic distribution, network switch/router/firewall software, Wireless Radio configuration, and architecture. Application of the communications system relevant to Communications Based Train Control (CBTC) solutions on Mainline and Mass Transit.
_Roles & Responsibilities:_
+ Communications Systems Design (Conceptual, detailed and final design with documentation)
+ Interface with other Sub-Systems/Third Parties for design and implementation
+ Installation, Testing and Commissioning support remotely and on-site
+ Product development and planning for next generation communications Systems
+ Support strategic sourcing for Communications Equipment Vendor evaluation
_Required Skills (Technical Competency):_
+ 5+ years of experience required with (preferably 7+ years):
+ Design, test and commissioning of wired communication systems with involvement in the complete design lifecycle
+ Design with Cisco, Hirschmann, Westermo or Moxa switches/routers is a plus
+ Compliance to emissions regulations and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards highly desired but not required
+ Good working knowledge of Ethernet, Industrial Ethernet, Routers, Firewalls
+ Demonstrated experience with Windows XP, Windows 7, Server 2003.
+ Experience in high-availability/high-redundancy systems required.
+ CCNA, CCIE and MCSE highly desired but not required.
+ Demonstrated experience with fiber optic layout/design including troubleshooting knowledge, OTDR, OTLS, testing, physical cable knowledge including concepts of splicing, physics of light transmissions.
+ Network Traffic Engineering including capacity planning of system design based on requirements such as networks with or without VoIP.
+ Experience with network environments containing mobile (roaming) clients a plus.
+ Working knowledge of 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ad radios is a must; knowledge of GSM-R radio equipment is desirable.
+ Knowledge of network redundancy protocols is a must.
+ Knowledge of VLANs, QOS, trunking, RSTP, PVSTP+, ACLs, SNMP, SSL, Check Point.
+ Knowledge of network management applications, such as Whats Up, SNMP, etc.
+ Knowledge of network design concepts, such as dimensioning, optical link budget and traffic analysis.
+ Conceptual Knowledge of radio frequency (RF) system design requirements, such as RF link budgets, signal propagation and modulation.
+ Knowledge of general communications theory concepts such as modulation, noise, and bit error rates.
+ Knowledge of troubleshooting complex Communications Systems and shown methodical approach to troubleshooting
+ Knowledge of tools such as Wireshark is a must.
_Area & Nature of Impact_
+ A Senior RF Systems Engineer will be the cognizant engineer responsible for reviewing RF Systems Designs and Helping with product road maps to keep the solutions in line with industry standards.
_Interpersonal & Communication Skills_
+ Superior verbal/written communications skills for effective interfacing with non-specialist technical team members (domestic and international). Occasional opportunities to act as a trainer to technical field site personnel.
