As an Principal/Senior Optical Network Engineer, the ideal resource will be a key part of the Global Service Team working on deploying and maintaining optical networks across the defined action region / customer. The responsibilities will include layer 1 through layer 3 network design, capacity planning, platform management and maintenance, as well as serving as an escalation point for significant network events. Must have skills to deploy and/or operate carrier DWDM / OTN / CWDM networks, including a knowledge of ROADM, coherent transponders, flex-grid operation and be familiar with extended-reach modulation techniques for ultra-long haul systems. As part of the activities, will act as an escalation point for high severity network issues, combining excellent troubleshooting, communication, and network management skills, to expedite deployment and problem resolution and act as a key point of contact between internal groups, vendors, and network peers. Must learn quickly and adapt to changes. Must maintain a high sense of urgency while staying cool under pressure.
Plan and deploy of DWDM, OTN and CWDM optical systems to provide optical circuits.
Guide testing teams through selection and qualification of optical systems.
Work with operations to ensure systems are thoroughly supported by monitoring and management systems.
Act as a technical expert for optical networks and components, either DWDM, or single channel optics
Requires a bachelors degree in engineering or other technical degree and a minimum of 5 years experience or masters and 3 years experience.
