Job Description

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) seeks a Lead Project Engineer who has a strong blend of technical knowledge in power system protection, commercial acumen, project management, and leadership and problem-solving skills. Successful candidates will have experience with managing end to end multiple large-scale protection power projects with excellent communication and relationship management skills. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
+ Serve as protection systems technical lead and actively participate in engineering project proposals, design, development, and execution.
+ Identify, prepare and present successful proposals for SEL equipment, services, and systems that meet or exceed customer requirements.
+ Manage the full life-cycle of engineering projects from estimation and proposal conception to commissioning and close-out.
+ Effectively track and stabilize projects, implement solutions for obstacles and anticipate customer needs.
+ Conduct final technical and quality reviews of estimations and proposals done by the Engineering Services team prior to providing them to customers.
+ Ensure project team deliverables are within agreed upon scope, schedule and budget to a high level of quality and safety.
+ Mentor and develop professional staff. May supervise as necessary.
+ Model, teach, and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.
+ Understand. Create. Simplify.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
+ B.S. in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline
+ 8+ years relevant application experience with electric power systems or industrial automation system practices
+ Demonstrated knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration, and automation and communications applications
+ Electrical utility, industrial plant, consulting engineering, or system integrator experience
+ Demonstrated knowledge of electric power system design, studies, information and communication technology, and protective relay applications
+ Willing to travel both domestically and internationally up to 25% of the time
+ Demonstrated ability to lead project teams and manage engineering projects
+ Excellent writing, documentation, and speaking skills
+ Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
+ Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment
+ Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Preferred Qualifications
+ Working knowledge of Vision or other project management tracking software
