A strategic and value-adding partner to brand teams and other key functions, experts in performance optimisation, capability building and change management, providing high impact, best practice, integrated/blended learning interventions which enable AbbVie to be always ahead of the curve. Reporting to the Head of Learning, this role will support the development and the execution of the learning strategy and initiatives in line with AbbVie’s business priorities and performance expectations supporting a culture of continuous improvement and learning.

Major Accountabilities:


  • To have a strategic oversight for all learning: to lead on the design and delivery of innovative learning solutions across the entire organisation, in a specified therapeutic area, brand teams, in-field teams and other key functions, always ensuring excellence in execution and that organisational learning goals are supported

  • Develop, and support continuous high performance and high engagement; ensure consistently high team effectiveness

  • To manage complex stakeholder relationships and external providers efficiently and effectively to time and to budget (when relevant) with clear measureable outcomes

  • Share agreed outcome metrics for core initiatives, results, best practices and learnings across learning network

  • Input into development of strategic learning plans and drive implementation of this plan in line with business priorities

  • Lead the development of the learning curriculum and programs for designated key areas of focus (knowledge and skills/leadership support/learning systems).

  • Undertake learning needs gap analysis in support of learning plan development

  • Input into the digital framework in support of learning strategy and programs

  • Drive uptake and engagement with all learning solutions

  • Support implementation of development program for senior leaders within the business such as Brand Team Leaders and Functional Heads

  • Design bespoke blended (non-traditional) learning programs in consultation with key stakeholders and in line with learning needs gap analysis

  • Investigate, and assess new digital solutions and technologies in support of learning content development

  • Develop expertise in current suite of digital solutions to drive learning content development

  • Scheduling and delivery of programs is in accordance with teams and or business priorities

  • Oversee all programs to ensure learning outcomes are maximised through pre and post program participant support


  • Comply with the company’s policies and procedures to meet statutory, quality and business requirements within the overall strategy and objectives of AbbVie

  • Responsible for the quality & performance of themselves and others through Medicines Australia compliance, regulations and standards.

  • Manage learning programs and interventions from vision and strategy to implementation, delivery and facilitation; leveraging staff where required, and employing creative approaches

  • Be confident in coaching and comfortable giving and receiving feedback

  • Ensure resources are used optimally; measuring outcomes and analysing available data sources


Education/Experience Required:

  • Demonstrated success in the development and execution of blended learning and development strategies within the pharmaceutical and or biotechnology sectors

  • Proven ability to work effectively in a Matrix Environment

  • Sound knowledge and experience in leading change management initiatives

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment would be highly desired

  • Experience with the development and implementation of digital learning solutions in support of agreed learning outcomes

  • Excellent communication skills within multiple contexts – i.e. classroom training, stakeholder engagement, coaching and written communications

  • Ability to work flexibly within ambiguous and complex environments

  • Ability to adapt and translate learning outcomes into online and digital contexts

  • Expertise in strategic thinking and planning, always aligning learning strategies and priorities based on critical business needs and strategies to add the most value
