The CMA/LPN/RN – Occupational Health supports Work Well Clinic operations under the direction of an RN, LPN or Medical Provider: Completes patient intake and screening, scheduling, patient education, treatments, documentation of treatments and processing of patient records. Communicates as required with employers and third party administrators, and completes a variety of housekeeping and supply management tasks.


Patient Care

· Delivers high quality care within the CMA scope of practice under the direction of an Occupational Medicine Provider, RN, or LPN while demonstrating knowledge of Occupational Medicine clinical skills in accordance with established policies, procedures and standards of care.

· Answers questions and provides teaching to patients and family members.

· Documents appropriate information in the patient’s chart.

· Complete patient forms and file medical records/correspondence, including progress notes, diagnostic information, professional correspondence and x-rays.

· Measure and record patient’s statistical data and medical history at the request of the provider.

· Record and obtain medical provider approval for medication refill requests, return calls to pharmacies with refill information.

· Assist provider with patient examination, procedures and emergencies.

· Is knowledgeable and trained to conduct pulmonary function testing, vision testing, hearing testing, and immunization delivery. May be trained to conduct drug testing services and additional lab tests as required.

· Prepare and assist provider with patient examination, specimen collection, minor surgical procedures and treatment of the patients, including administration of medication under direct supervision of the provider.

· May be assigned to assist with outreach services or on-site clinics (onsite at a client company location) when needed.

Patient Care Support

· Obtain information to assist provider and referral specialist with patient referrals; complete appropriate forms or requisitions required for referrals or lab testing.

· Ensures that documents and information is delivered/communicated to the appropriate entity.

· Schedules follow-up appointments as required.

· Communicates with employees, employers, and third party payors as is necessary to complete the requirements of the clinic service.

· May serve as clinic Referral Specialist that seeks authorization from employers and/or third party payors for ordered procedures and referrals to specialists outside of the Work Well Clinic, completes and transmits required documentation, schedules appointments, and informs involved parties.

· Demonstrates initiative to improve quality and customer service by striving to exceed customer expectations.

· Balance team and individual responsibilities; be open and objective to other’s views; give and welcome feedback; contribute to positive team goals; and put the success of the team above own interests.

· Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

· Practice reflects knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding occupational medicine.

· Demonstrates the ability to meet the department work schedule.

· Demonstrates the knowledge that patient and workplace safety is a priority by preventing errors, accidents and infections and reporting potential or actual concerns immediately.

· Completes daily housekeeping tasks as assigned.

· Assists with management of department supply inventory.

· Supports cost containment concepts.

Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Requirements

Education:

Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program.

Experience:

Prefer one (1) year Occupational Health and/or clinic experience.

License(s)/Certification(s):

Current CME certification for Certified Medical Assistant and AAMA certification, RN or LPN License in Iowa or compact state.

Must possess and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as outlined per policy or obtain certification within three (3) months from date of hire.

Valid driver’s license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

· Basic computer knowledge using word processing, spreadsheet, email, and web browser.

· Demonstrates training within three (3) months of hire in Spirometry and Audiometry under the direction of an individual who has completed an approved course.
