Manager, Climate and Carbon

The company

Our client is one of Australia’s leading diversified energy infrastructure businesses across gas and renewable assets. As an organisation they are located in all mainland Australian capital cities, as well as regional centres and towns scattered across the thousands of kilometres of infrastructure that they manage and operate.

Following the recent appointment of one of Australia’s most accomplished sustainability leaders, a new role has been created for a Manager, Climate and Carbon on a permanent, full-time basis.

The role

Reporting to the General Manager Sustainability and Community, this senior role will be responsible for strategic insight and subject matter expertise to the organisation on climate, carbon and emissions policy, management and performance.

This role will also lead the implementation of the Climate Change Management Plan and associated targets, metrics and initiatives, and provide SME leadership to identify and evaluate emissions reduction and carbon management opportunities.

In addition, you will:

• Define requirements and support new business opportunity due diligence in the areas of climate and carbon
• Design, manage and monitor organisation performance against climate targets and metrics
• Support finance, commercial and treasury teams to develop, maintain and embed consideration for climate ambition within financial, economic and commercial models and to evaluate climate financing mechanisms
• Monitor the domestic and international policy and regulatory environment related to climate and carbon
• Lead periodic resilience assessment and TCFD disclosures and reporting processes

About you

This role will suit someone with a technical grounding who can bridge the gap between climate and economic/ finance language. You will have had enough exposure to engineering to make meaningful contributions when assessing opportunities and an authentic engagement approach.

Ideally you will have:

• Tertiary qualifications in finance, economics or commerce and climate/ environmental science
• Substantial knowledge and experience bridging commercial/economic, climate and carbon management in an operational and/or corporate environment
• Proven track record of the change management required to integrate climate and carbon risk management into BAU
• Exceptional communication; and risk identification and management skills
