In this position, you will be responsible for:

  • Secure strong partnerships with Sales, Marketing and Supply Chain to understand markets, align strategies and priorities on regular basis. Act as equal counterpart within these disciplines.
  • Establish the Development & Credibility roadmap for Medical nutrition in close collaboration with Research and Expert teams (e.g. Nutrition, Technology, Sensory and Packaging).
  • Have a good understanding of business & consumer needs to feed the research program & development plans
  • Set-up a plan in order to integrate research leads into commercial proposition
  • Connect & align with R&D peers (specifically within Specialized Nutrition) on the way to utilize research outcome considering respective strategies.
  • Lead the development roadmap defining ‘ideal’ product format in close collaboration with sensory, technology & packaging team.
  • Secure good substantiation of product range by defining needs for clinical studies in close collaboration with Nutritional team
  • Leverage milk protein ‘expertise’ & ‘benefit’ towards Medical nutrition applications Manage R&D portfolio and projects
  • Manage R&D portfolio and projects:
    • C o-create and facilitate decision regarding strategy & project portfolio
    • Responsible for the innovation pipeline and secure a balanced project portfolio funnel (from ideation to implementation)
    • Act as counterpart of (some of) the key customers in the field of Medical Nutrition
    • Responsible for the delivery of Medical nutrition related projects On Time In Full, involving a combination of various internal and external production locations 
  • Manage Year plan/budget and Resource Management:
    • Provide input and monitor yearly R&D related Medical nutrition budget
    • Manage, allocate and optimize resources of the Medical Nutrition Development team (including hiring, coaching, developing and appraising
    • Build and maintain a professional team of professionals

Medical nutrition is a relatively new focus area within FrieslandCampina. For FrieslandCampina standards Medical nutrition is confronted with ‘uncultivated’ topics, ways of working and market dynamics. Medical nutrition involves a complex Ingredients range that requires specific Ingredient  and technological knowledge. Complexity within this segment is mainly driven by the need for new Value driven innovation (development of new concepts, supported by scientific evidence) and propositions (quality of the proposition determines business success instead of quantity). Instead  of managing and incrementally develop an existing successful product portfolio, the Manager Medical Nutrition needs to focus on the new product development pipeline in line with strategy and build expertise in the team. Critical to success is commercial savviness, but at the same time being  able to understand content, a broad range of market preferences and legal requirements.


To be a successful in this position, you are/have:

  • MSc degree, preferably in Food Technology
  • > 5 y Professional R&D management experience in global FMCG company, preferably BtB
  • > 5 y Professional experience in innovation projects
  • Knowledge of nutrition, preferably medical nutrition
  • Has a relevant external network and knowledge in the medical industry
  • Skills to interact professionally with customers
  • Team player: is able to lead a team of professional in an empowering way, is pro-actively promoting team player behavior
  • Conceptual and analytical thinking
  • Pragmatic, result-oriented and opportunity-seeking
