Salary: $74,989 - $93,737 per annum (Commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN Compensation Policy)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Status: Permanent Full-time

University Health Network (UHN) is looking for an experienced professional to fill the key role of Manager, Research Planning and Operations as the Joint Department of Medical Imaging.

Research across UHN's five research institutes spans the full spectrum of diseases and disciplines, including cancer, cardiovascular sciences, transplantation, neural and sensory sciences, musculoskeletal health, rehabilitation sciences, and community and population health. 

The Joint Department of Medical Imaging (JDMI) is a multi-site medical imaging department that includes three separate healthcare organizations, Mount Sinai Hospital, University Health Network (Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Toronto Rehab Institute), and Women's College Hospital, and spans six individual hospital sites. Fully affiliated with the University of Toronto, the JDMI is committed to being an international leader in medical imaging by providing the highest standards of patient care, research and education. The JDMI partner sites feature state-of-the-art technology and a multidisciplinary team of innovative technologists, nurses, and radiologists dedicated to exceptional image quality, professional development, research and education, as well as continual quality assurance and process improvement.

The JDMI Research Office is the central point of contact for research-focused medical imaging services, support, information and guidance for research programs, principal investigators, research funders, partner organizations and other stakeholders. In addition to supporting research imaging requirements, the research office champions professional standards, quality and consistency in research imaging practices, and administration, to ensure that study requirements, institutional governance responsibilities and obligations are met.

Working under the direction of the Senior Manager, Translational Research & Innovation, with oversight provided by Senior Director, Techna and Diagnostics Innovation, the Manager, Research Planning and Operations will:

  • Lead and oversee all aspects and day-to-day administrative functions of the JDMI Research Office
  • Collaborate with research programs, principal investigators and other stakeholders in enabling imaging research at UHN and partner organizations
  • Work closely with imaging operations, radiologists, and the JDMI Senior leadership team in the development and implementation of operational and strategic initiatives
  • Supervise the Research Office staff, fostering a positive, collaborative, customer-oriented working environment
  • Ensure efficient operational processes, and effective allocation of resources in the Research Office
  • Prepare and manage the Research Office budget, and run a financially and operationally sustainable department, in close partnership with the JDMI Finance team and JDMI Senior Operational Leadership
  • Carry out limited business development with external clients and liaise with UHN legal to see through the agreements to sign off
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills, including development of performance metrics
  • Demonstrate ability to think strategically, listen carefully, negotiate, build consensus, communicate and advocate effectively in a complex matrix organization
  • Demonstrate advanced computer skills, particularly with the Microsoft Office suite of applications
  • Proficiency with electronic and printed reference materials

Qualifications:

  • At minimum, a Masters degree or recognized equivalent, in Health Science, Health Administration or related field
  • At minimum, up to five (5) years of relevant and/or related experience in health-related field
  • At minimum, two (2) years of experience in supervising and mentoring staff
  • Prior experience in a research, clinical research environment an asset
  • Experience in evaluating, developing and writing grant proposals an asset
  • Knowledge of government funding agencies and requirements (CIHR, NIH)
  • Ability to manage tight deadlines and deliverables
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to express complex technical concepts effectively
  • Well-developed leadership, listening and conflict resolution skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional organizational skills, customer relations and ability to act with discretion
  • Excellent problem recognition and solving abilities
  • Knowledge of applicable legislative, UHN and/or departmental policies and procedures
  • Ability to manage multiple priority projects and timelines efficiently
  • Ability to work independently, and as part of a team, and meet deadlines required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, database and applications
  • Client service oriented, with the ability to effectively work with diversity and appreciate that people with different opinions, backgrounds and characteristics bring richness to the challenge or situation at hand
