About the role

Our local water infrastructure team is made up of over 45 water industry professionals of all disciplines relevant to water infrastructure including process, environmental, civil, structural, electrical and control systems, and mechanical engineers, as well as designer/drafters. This breadth of skills allows us to deliver the entirety of multi-discipline water infrastructure projects from the one local team, but also work with our wider national and global water business to both support projects in different geographies.

With demonstrated experience of project delivery excellence in a consulting environment, you will undertake a lead mechanical design role within our collaborative project team environment. This Senior Mechanical Engineer role will predominantly support planning and design of water infrastructure for our local and national clients, specifically the mechanical elements of drinking water and wastewater treatment systems, pump stations and pipeline systems.

You will be supported to develop towards becoming a Principal Mechanical Engineer and showing technical leadership within the Water Industry. You will be supported to succeed and given responsibility and autonomy based on your demonstrated and developing capability. This support will include availability of experienced professionals to discuss project work with you and provide a thorough review of your work prior to submission to the client. A separate mentoring program is also active and available.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

About you

  • Strong technical knowledge and proven experience in the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Areas of strength might include; design management; project management; concept, preliminary and detailed design of: gravity and pressure main distribution pipelines, pumping stations, water and wastewater treatment plants and desalination. Experience in hydraulic analysis; pump system curves, specification and selection; gravity and pressure pipeline design in DI, PVC, PE, MSCL would be essential. A good understanding of mechanical structure requirements and associated electrical engineering and process control requirements being highly beneficial.
  • Relevant Engineering degree (or equivalent) and relevant industry Chartership/Accreditation.
  • RPEQ status or ability to obtain chartership within 1-2 years
  • Sound market knowledge, the ability to build strong client relationships, and the acumen to identify, bid, win, and deliver water sector projects.
  • Ability and willingness to guide and mentor junior staff for their growth and benefit to our team.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established thriving business with a strong pipeline of projects. The current opportunities are predominantly based in Perth and Brisbane however, you will be joining a truly connected ANZ Water Solutions business who provide the full suite of consulting services from advisory and engineering through to operations and asset management.

The Jacobs water business has water infrastructure and water resources capability in every major city around Australia working across a multitude of markets such as Utilities, Government, Transport, Resources, and Energy Transitioning to name a few.

Our team is currently working on projects that have a lasting enduring positive impact on our communities such as advisory services for new water sources for agriculture, flood modelling and engineering services to enable greater connectivity, innovative space saving wastewater sludge treatment projects, and major desalination plants in response to our drying climate.
