Medical Affairs Manager - Vaccine


This position is responsible for providing strategic and managerial leadership for medical affairs within a specific Therapeutic Area (Vaccine).  He/she will contribute to the achievement of business success by putting patient’s needs and safety into primary focus as well as through management of medical KOL engagement.

Activities and Responsibilities

This position is responsible for providing scientific leadership both internally and externally in the creation and execution of the medical/clinical plan for the specific Therapeutic Area (Vaccine). Role includes collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders and serving as a medical and scientific expert within the company, with deep Takeda and competitor product and therapy area knowledge to effectively and appropriately advise the commercial team.

  • Develop and oversee all local Medical Affairs activities in the relevant Therapeutic Area (Vaccine) and subsequently executes those plans
  • Maintain a very high level of updated medical knowledge and understanding of the overall treatment and healthcare environment in the Therapeutic Area (Vaccine)
  • Leverage strong science to create compelling strategies for the Therapeutic Area (Vaccine) towards fulfilling the unmet medical needs; support successful product registration, and increase availability of Takeda’s medicine to patients
  • Represent the Therapeutic Area (Vaccine) Medical Affairs to senior cross-functional leadership as well as external stake-holders


  • Provide medical/scientific input into the Brand Plan as a member of the cross-functional Brand Team
  • Utilize in-field insights to support medical and scientific strategy and business development
  • Develop effective and appropriate medical strategies
  • May be responsible for budget planning, resource allocation and preparation of monthly / quarterly reports for relevant Therapeutic Area (Vaccine)


  • Lead and/ or participate in the development and implementation of key medical activities (e.g. advisory boards, focus group meetings, medical education and peer-to-peer training activities)
  • Create or support the development of medical/scientific materials and slide decks as needed
  • Provide scientific input to sales and marketing (to collect information related to Takeda products from various sources such as: literature, text books, journals, internet and to update commercial team on latest information related to the Therapeutic Area (Vaccine) in order to support business activities
  • Report on management of KOL engagement by collecting, analysing and summarizing relevant information and trends
  • Support Takeda’s speakers bureau through addressing educational needs of the members and faculty
  • Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of educational strategies for assigned Therapeutic Area (Vaccine) to meet the educational needs of the medical and scientific community in accordance with Takeda’s business objectives and prevailing accreditation/regulatory standards
  • Deliver medical knowledge education to field force in order to ensure team competence.
  • Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationship with medical education providers, healthcare organizations/associations, and key healthcare professionals in order to position Takeda as a competitive and responsible world class pharmaceutical company.
  • Lead identification of educational opportunities that are aligned with Takeda’s medical education strategies and provide scientific support for continuous medical education (CMEs) program


  • Contribute to and provide medical review of promotional and non-promotional materials for scientific meetings, symposia and other medical education activities, in accordance with applicable Codes of Practice and regulations as well as Takeda policies within defined timelines
  • Ensure that the scientific-medical content of promotional and non-promotional material is fair, balanced, and based on appropriate scientific evidence, as well as compliant with local regulatory norms and internal compliance rules
  • Ensure compliance of all responsible activities to relevant laws and regulations as well as internal standards and SOPs


  • Share medical insights in the relevant Therapeutic Area (Vaccine) to cross functional colleagues
  • Provide medical and scientific input in the relevant Therapeutic Area (Vaccine) to cross-functional stakeholders, including marketing, regulatory, market access / alliance functions and others as required
  • Advise commercial team on medical and scientific matters, including but not limited to scientific approval of promotional and non-promotional materials
  • Provide medical and scientific training to internal stakeholders as needed


  • Develop and execute data generation/dissemination plan for the relevant Therapeutic Area (Vaccine) in line with the medical plan
  • Perform, conduct, and monitor data generation plan of relevant company products in close coordination with Direct Manager and Global/APAC data generation team in order to ensure that activities and processes performed are based on the highest ethical principles and medical standards.
  • Collaborate with and provide medical expertise to clinical development team  in relevant Therapeutic Area (Vaccine) as needed 
  • Provide leadership and medical expertise in the development of data generation / clinical research programs in line with global strategies to support local product registration and marketing
  • Proactively and reactively collaborate with clinical operations to ensure local patients are included in global trials as well as patient recruitment targets are met


  • Support the Direct Manager in planning and implementing patient access programs as needed and as per local regulatory requirements for products within Therapeutic Area (Vaccine)
  • Provide medical expertise in the review of adverse events locally and contribute to global pharmacovigilance activities


  • Establish appropriate relationship with key opinion leaders (KOLs), government officials, healthcare organizations and vaccine advocacy groups and ensures that significant developments in the field are identified and monitored
  • Actively participate in local pharmaceutical industry association / society meetings and appropriately discuss relevant issues with internal colleagues as well as external peers  under the guidance of Direct Manager
  • Support the company reputation by representing the company on cross-company boards (as needed)

Job Specification

  • Min Medical graduate (e.g. MBBS) with 2 years pharmaceutical industry experience
  • Preferable Medical post-graduate (e.g. MD) or equivalent
  • 4 years of prior Medical Affairs experience in pharmaceutical industry
  • 2-3 years of experience in the relevant Therapeutic Area
  • Product launch experience
  • Expertise in creating strategic medical plans
  • Experience conducting advisory boards
  • Scientific publications in the relevant Therapeutic Area
  • In-depth experience in data generation / clinical research
  • Certified in pharmacovigilance
  • Certified in clinical trial methodology and Good Clinical Practice (GCP)
