Job Description

Mater is proud to announce the opening of our Emotional Health Unit as part of our Young Adult Health Centre.

The Emotional Health Unit is the first of its kind in Queensland, providing a specialised private mental health service consisting of an Inpatient Unit, Day Program (Recovery College) and Outpatient Consultancy treatment for young adults aged 16-25 years.

Mater anticipates a high level of demand for a private, youth focused, mental health offering that will address a significant unmet need in Queensland.

About the roles

We are currently seeking expressions of interest from Visiting Medical Officers (VMO) with experience in Young Adult Mental Health to partner with our Emotional Health Unit team.

As a VMO you will have responsibility for the delivery of high quality private mental health care to patients within the Emotional Health Unit. You will work within a multidisciplinary team which includes a registrar and will contribute to the development of mental health, young adult and other Mater Health services.

We are seeking VMOs with an interest in having admitting rights and /or using sessional consulting suites.

What you’ll be doing

You will be required to:

  • Work closely with the Lead Psychiatrist to ensure safe, high quality care is delivered to every patient every time
  • Deliver a high quality, private youth focused offering in line with Maters Clinical Services Plan
  • Mentor and advise junior doctors using timely, consistent and clear communication

About you

To be successful for this position:

  • Registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA
  • Demonstrated recent clinical experience within young adult mental health
  • Expert knowledge of contemporary models of care for young people
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and provide leadership of a team.
  • High level of communication and interpersonal skills
  • Meet requirements of Maters credentialing process as a VMO

Advanced training in Child Psychiatry (RANZCP Child Certificate) desirable but not mandatory
