JOB SUMMARY: 

  • The role of the Medical Underwriter has traditionally been a back office function with limited interaction with the end customer, broker and agents. This role will have a higher level of engagement with the sales teams, both broker and telemarketing department.  This role should be flexible in underwriting and proactively seeking ways to improve the underwriting efficiency and able to embrace the modern underwriting approaches

  • Health underwriter reviews applications for coverage, gathers data, and assesses risk related to qualifying a candidate for health insurance. Calculates and recommends pricing, collecting background information and assessments of risk. Being health underwriter performs group and individual underwriting. Exposure to some of the complex task within the job function. Require 2-4 years of related experience


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Screen applicants on the medical basis of set criteria and able to writing quotes and negotiating on the medical terms with brokers and clients
  • Contact field representatives, medical personnel, and others to obtain further information for underwriting process
  • Approves, declines or rates the application within the established criteria, while utilizing clinical judgment
  • To assess risk applications on medical terms accurately and consistently within agreed service levels, create and review underwriting guidelines and underwriting authority thereby minimizing unfavorable exposure
  • Make commercial underwriting decisions balancing risk assessment with business growth
  • Within LMG underwriting philosophy obtain appropriate medical information to ensure accurate assessment of a risk
  • To develop and maintain detailed product knowledge, technical underwriting knowledge and expertise
  • To maintain current knowledge of regulatory guidelines and to ensure compliance to OIC’s regulations
  • To maintain a high quality of effective and pro-active communication with key sales contacts and customers ensuring the smooth and correct flow of business
  • To contribute to an efficient and effective underwriting service by seeking and providing assistance to the team whenever required
  • To contribute to partner and customer satisfaction by personally answering the telephone and mail enquiries in a prompt, accurate, appropriate and courteous manner
  • To participate in relevant project work as when required by the Manager
  • To monitor performance and supervise Underwriting Team
  • To coordinate with claim team for any reassessment case when required
  • Underwrite group life, group medical, personal accidents & travel renewal case within agreed turnaround time and ensure the underwriting decision complied with company’s goals, rules and guidelines
  • To work with other departments to set up or change setup of products in the systems
  • To handle and assist in UW administrative work, such as drafting forms, drafting clauses, translation, statistical analysis, etc.
  • To build and maintain relationships with clients, brokers, cedants and reinsurers
  • To support and coordinate with Distribution teams on all UW related matters


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Require a bachelor's degree of Nurse background
  • Minimum 5 years insurance industry experience
  • Minimum 2-4 years Medical Underwriting Experience
  • Proven experience in leading and managing teams
  • A relevant tertiary qualification would be preferred but is not essential
  • Flexible in Underwriting for the positivity result of the bottom line
  • Excellent communication in both Thai and English, spoken and written and good negotiation skills
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain excellent relationships with both internal and external customers
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills
  • Problem solving and resolution skills
  • Strong business sense
  • Advanced negotiation and influencing skills
