Spacecraft Operations Engineer (SOE) - Heliophysics Spacecraft Systems

Space Careers (Darmstadt HE, Deutschland) Vor 20 Stunden veröffentlicht

Thorn SDS provides specialist spacecraft engineering services within the European Space Sector. We have a new and immediate requirement for services within the Heliophysics Missions Operations Unit at ESA ESOC, Darmstadt. This is a fabulous opportunity for an experienced SOE with excellent communication skills in English, to work on a number of hugely interesting programmes.

Once successful you will initially support Cluster II in extended routine operations and Solar Orbiter in cruise operations and will have opportunities to work on other missions within the Solar System and Explorations Missions Division.

The scope of the role is wide ranging and includes Operations Supervision, Mission Planning, Spacecraft Performance Analysis and Reporting, Phase Execution, Anomaly Handling and Onboard Software. You should be able to clearly demonstrate experience in all of these areas.

We expect you to have applicable knowledge and experience across all Spacecraft Subsystems and ideally be considered expert in at least one (AOCS/ DH/ OBSM/ Power/ Thermal/ TTC Payload); you should also be able to demonstrate your team player attributes ideally with experience of coordinating and interacting with other service providers in operations scenarios.

The role will develop with the mission phases, and across different missions, so we are looking for engineers who can demonstrate initiative and flexibility in a fast-paced environment. With experience of the full lifecycle of spacecraft flight procedures and deep space missions, you will have carried out procedure creation, validation and simulations. You should have worked on SVTs, anomaly investigations and have a good understanding of spacecraft operations at system level. Programming skills in Python, a good understanding of general software engineering practices (SQL, Djangi, Docker, GITLAB), experience with MOIS and a familiarity of the SCOS-2000 mission control system would all be considered advantageous. Juggling tasks and making the most of the resources available to you will be essential in this role.

At Thorn SDS we are always seeking to identify high quality individuals who are looking to start or further their career in the space industry. These are fantastic roles with huge career development potential, to either specialise in Operations in the long-term or to develop the knowledge and skills to advance into related engineering specialisms.
