Consultancy Services Operations Manager – P/T, job-share or F/T

Location: Wednesfield
Grade: 4
The opportunity: 

An exciting opportunity has a risen to manage the operations in our brand new Technical Centre in Wednesfield which is the home of our Consultancy Services teams.  The CS Operations Manager is responsible for the operation of Consultancy Services through the effective management of a team of 30 technical engineers and support staff to ensure the teams deliver a high quality, cost effective service to Consultancy Services customers. Ensuring compliance with technical standards and quality systems within technical disciplines.

This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Maintain technical quality and professional standards through the management of multi-discipline engineering teams.

  • Provide a strong operational performance environment for the various teams being managed.

  • Provide specialist expertise to internal and external clients to assist and promote business opportunities.

  • Ensure lab retains UKAS accreditation – including responsibility for driving improvement actions

  • Develop technical materials / documents for technical staff and customers

  • Manage performance, training and development of people.

  • Identify, manage and control resource requirements – including recruitment of people.

  • Motivate and drive the teams to achieve targets and operational goals.

  • Ensure compliance with Zurich policies and procedures.

  • Ensure compliance with Health and Safety policy

    Your skills and experience:
  •   Expert/knowledgeable in one or more CS disciplines.
  • Thorough understanding of relevant legislation.

  • Good understanding of statutory inspection services, manufacturing processes, mechanical/industrial plant and equipment design, construction, measurement, testing and operating procedures, within discipline.

  • Good understanding of quality management and quality systems.

  • Interviewing and appraisal techniques/processes.

  • Knowledge of cost centre management

  • Appreciation of products and services

  • Applies technical judgement in the performance and/or control of work within discipline.

  • Negotiation skills; people management skills; Interpersonal skills; Customer service skills

  • Able to manage change

  • Competent at resource planning
