### Summary
The James H. Quillen VA Medical Center is seeking well qualified Psychiatrists to serve our Veteran patients' needs at our William C. Tallent VA Outpatient Clinic located in Knoxville, Tennessee. Psychiatrists from multiple mental health subspecialties are encouraged to apply.

### Responsibilities
This Announcement will remain open until filled and may be used to fill multiple vacancies. Applicants will be referred to the hiring manager as they are received and this announcement may close without advanced notice.
The psychiatrists on staff work in an outpatient setting. The ideal candidate will be board certified or board-eligible within 2 years of residency graduation. Typical duties include performing psychiatric assessments and aftercare visits utilizing pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy. The psychiatrist would participate in a multidisciplinary setting for the development of treatment plans and case supervision. The treated conditions can include, among other things, PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, neurocognitive disorders and substance use disorders. The psychiatrist will be expected to develop proficiency in the use of telehealth equipment for the provision of psychiatric care at a distance. Training is provided. Additional assigned administrative duties, such as participation in committees, is likely.
The option to become involved in medical student and resident psychiatrist didactics is available .
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, either 6:45 AM -3:30 PM, or 8:45 AM - 5:30 PM. Compressed tours 6:45 AM - 5:30 PM four days per week are also available at the discretion of the Chief of Mental Health Services. Saturday rotations will be required (typically 2 or 3 per year). Compressed tours may be available. Tour changes may be required to fulfill the needs of the service, and are at the discretion of the Chief of Mental Health Services at the Outpatient Clinic.

### Qualifications
Basic Requirements :
* United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* Education: Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
* Licensure and Registration: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
* Completion of a residency training program: Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
* English Language Proficiency: Proficiency in spoken and written English.
* Physical requirements outlined below.
Preferred Experience: Board certification/eligibility in Psychiatry.
Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office.
Physical Requirements: Physicians should be physically and mentally capable to perform the examinations, formulate the diagnosis and treatment plan, and educate residents. Physical activity includes sitting, standing (up to 2 hours), walking (up to 2 hours), heavy lifting (45 pounds or over), reaching above the shoulder, and repeating bending. They should be emotionally and mentally stable and capable of performing the duties of the position.
