The Development Planner will be responsible for the efficient design and development of upcoming neighbourhood design projects. Working alongside our development and acquisitions teams, the role will participate in every aspect of the planning process. The Development Planner will also work with other professional disciplines, approval agencies and municipal authorities.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in all aspects of the planning process and approval of neighbourhood design
  • Prepare preliminary subdivision layouts and development concepts
  • Research appropriate and responsible land uses for site and conceptual assignments and land development projects
  • Manage enquiries regarding rezoning and development permit potential in relation to municipal legislation
  • Take part in the public consultation process by facilitating public information meetings that include the residents of the community, project stakeholders, municipal officials and others
  • Ensure all planning processes follow appropriate legislations
  • Plan and coordinate workforce and timelines
  • Maintain records of all purchases and RFPs to ensure the projects adhere to set budgets
  • Determine and coordinate resource requirements and liaise with resource coordinators
  • Identify specific risks associated with executing the planned activities
  • Analyze and interpret financial data for budgeting and forecasting
  • Support for scheduling of projects to ensuring the best timing
  • Identify and seek out new business opportunities
  • Work with external consultants and other key stakeholders

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in Urban Planning, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years' land development and municipal planning experience
  • Minimum two years of supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of contracting, negotiating, and change management
  • Knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles
  • Knowledge of federal and provincial regulations.
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel throughout Canada
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • High level of integrity, confidentially, and accountability
  • Ability to respond appropriately in pressure situations with a calm and steady demeanor
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with other departments, key business partners, and government agencies
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • High level of proficiency with Microsoft Office productivity suite
