Job Summary

As a Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Systems Engineer based in our Sydney Power & Industrial team, you will be involved in leading a number of power system projects throughout the ANZ region. In particular, AECOM provides engineering consultancy services associated with medium & high voltage substations, generation plants, mining, process plants, water transportation, buildings and defence infrastructures. The Senior Electrical Engineer – Power Systems role will primarily focus on developing and delivering power system related design activities and projects.

Some of your day to day responsibilities include but not limited to;

  • Development of power system models, studies, analysis, advise, calculations, design reports and preparation of associated design documentations, operating power system software tools, safety in design register, etc.

  • Providing technical support on power system analysis to the project team

  • Liaising with Project Managers/Project Technical Leads/Design Managers for managing technical, delivery, quality and client interface aspects of the secondary systems projects.

  • Perform design checking and verification of secondary systems designs

  • Contributing to bids and proposals including cost estimates and supporting materials

  • Working at client sites from time to time, as required, to develop and meet project requirements

  • Developing, encouraging and facilitating innovation in engineering solutions and work processes

  • Ensuring all electrical work is completed in accordance with Australian standards and sound engineering principles.

  • Managing project teams to ensure timely provision of coordinated and quality engineering deliverables

  • Contributing to the development of client relationships including identification of opportunities

Minimum Requirements

You will be recognised for your technical expertise, excellent communication, client management skills and commercial acumen. In addition, you will possess the following;

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems or equivalent, CP Eng. would be an advantage

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the area of high voltage power system design activities

  • Proven experience in the following areas:

  • Power system studies & analysis (such as load flow analysis, harmonic analysis, arc flash study,

  • Power system modelling (generators, transmission lines, transformers, etc.)

  • Fault level calculation and load flow analysis,

  • Relay grading & co-ordination assessment and producing associated grading curves

  • Relay settings calculations (in particular line differential, distance schemes, overcurrent & earth fault grading)

  • Operating power system analysis tools such as DigSilent Powerfactory, SKM Powertools, Etap, Mathcad, etc.

  • Relay settings files & configuration (in particular SEL, Siemens, ABB, & Schneider Micom S1)

  • Relay SCADA mapping & associated integration files for IEC61850 applications

  • Demonstrated understanding of control and protection principles of high voltage substation equipment, transmission lines, generators, transformers, reactive equipment, etc.

  • Experience working with power utilities (in particular TransGrid, Western Power, Endeavour Energy, Ausgrid) and generation plants (in particular large scale solar/wind farms) –would be an advantage.
