Job Description

About the role
In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in enhancing the Process Safety Management (PSM) system across our operations, ensuring that all sites comply with the highest standards of safety and regulatory requirements. You’ll work closely with industry experts, driving safety improvements, conducting risk assessments, and managing compliance initiatives that will directly impact the success of our operations.

Key responsibilities:



  • Assist in developing, implementing, and continuously improving the Process Safety Management (PSM) system to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

  • Support risk assessments, including HAZID, HAZOP, and SFAIRP, helping to identify hazards and mitigate risks

  • Support operations teams with producing and maintaining engineering drawings and documents.

  • Participate in internal and external audits, driving continuous improvements in safety performance.

  • Process equipment design and specification.

  • Collaborate with senior engineers to implement plant safety and improvement projects



Qualifications

About you
You’re an engineer with 3+ years of experience, bringing technical expertise and a passion for safety and compliance. Whether you’re currently looking for a change or seeking to expand your skills in a new and challenging role, you’re ready to step into a position that will allow you to contribute directly to the safety culture at WM New Zealand.


We’re looking for someone who:



  • Holds a tertiary qualification in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Has 3-5 years of experience in process safety, engineering, or compliance, ideally in a major hazard facility or similar environment.

  • Understands HSE Regulations and Hazardous Substances Regulations and knows how to apply them in practice.

  • Has experience participating in risk assessments (HAZID, HAZOP), implementing safety protocols, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.

  • Has excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to present technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
