The  Project Engineer  is responsible for engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments with limited supervision. The Project Engineer also acts as a technical advisor to less experienced engineers.

Essential functions and Responsibilities:

  • Design and Oversee plans, estimates and specifications for compliance with FHWA, PennDOT and the city of Philadelphia’s guidelines and standards
  • Develop construction documents including all aspects of highway and site design (geometrics, details, ADA criteria, roadway profiles, utility design and coordination, pavement markings, and maintenance of traffic, signage)
  • Supervise junior level Designers and CADD Technicians on a task basis
  • Coordinate with multiple departments on a cross-discipline basis
  • Develop extra work order requests and open-end contract task proposals
  • Assist preparing proposals as required
  • Attend meetings with clients
  • Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET accredited engineering program
  • Minimum of 7 years of transportation engineering experience, related to highways, urban streetscapes and roadway rehabilitation type projects
  • Professional Engineer License or ability to obtain one within a year
  • Experience with Project/Task Management and working with the city of Philadelphia, PennDOT, and other local clients

Working Conditions:

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
