The Public Relations Manager will lead the PR and communications program in Asia. As a key member of the firm’s Brand & Communications Department, the Public Relations Manager develops and implements various PR programs and media campaigns to enhance the firm’s name recognition across its offices, practice areas, and markets. Covering a wide range of market-leading practices and industries and the firm’s six offices in Asia – Hong Kong; Shanghai; Beijing; Singapore; Tokyo; and Seoul - the Public Relations Manager is a trusted advisor to firm leaders, partners, and colleagues, demonstrating impeccable judgment, consummate professionalism, and outstanding PR and marketing communications experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing media relations programs and marketing communications campaigns designed to build the firm’s name recognition in key practice areas, industry sectors, and markets across Asia.
  • Developing messaging and conducting media training.
  • Drafting and editing copy for a wide range of media formats, including advertisements, social media channels, website, etc.
  • Drafting submissions for awards and responding to media surveys.
  • Proactively seeking media opportunities for profiling the firm, practice groups, and individual attorneys across all media formats — print, online, social media, broadcast, blogs, etc.
  • Managing proactive press outreach and reactive media relations across Asia.
  • Developing and implementing PR and marketing communications campaigns — spanning digital, press and stakeholder campaigns — to launch new products e.g., microsites; apps
  • Overseeing the ongoing development of the firm’s thought leadership campaign, including the development of new thought leadership products and platforms. Leveraging his/her understanding of relevant social / digital media channels to disseminate the firm’s content in Asia and beyond and engage stakeholders.
  • Supporting the development of the firm’s social media program in Asia.
  • Supporting the firm’s administrative departments as well as firm leadership in the region on a variety of internal communications initiatives.
  • Collaborating with the firm’s in-house video team in the development of video concepts for external communications and internal communications projects, including script development
  • Coordinating and liaising with the senior administration in Asia and local Business Development to ensure an integrated, strategic approach regarding all public relations functions
  • Assisting with and/or implementing other special projects or research assignment initiatives as assigned. Conducting industry research and market intelligence, as appropriate.
  • Managing vendor relationships, including agencies as appropriate.
  • Promoting effective work practices, working as a team member, and showing respect for co-workers.

Position Specifications

Education

  • University degree / Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, Business Administration, Law, or related field required.

Work Experience

  • Relevant public relations experience (at PR agency or in-house).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • High degree of knowledge and experience across core public relations disciplines.
  • Excellent leadership skills necessary for effective management (i.e., proactive-attitude, organizing, planning, problem-solving, relationship-building, and decision-making)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills required; additional languages beneficial but not required.
  • Communications experience across multiple media formats. Advanced understanding of social media and digital communications.
  • Creative mindset and proactive problem-solver.
  • Well developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to interact effectively with both external networks and people at all organizational levels of the firm.
  • Ability to work in a team environment with a proactive customer service focus.
  • Organization skills needed to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to proofread and ensure accurate articles, presentations, database entries, and other work products.
  • Ability to perceive and analyze problems, and a capacity to make or recommend sound decisions.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with the appropriate discretion.
  • Strong analytical skills needed for all primary duties of position, including comprehending and communicating data.
  • Ability to undertake large, long-term projects, develop alternative methods to complete them, and implement solutions.
  • Advanced knowledge of PC applications, including the entire suite of MS Office applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
