Job Description

In this Purchasing Officer role reporting to the Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for ordering and monitoring equipment from both domestic and overseas suppliers, based on MRP and project requirements.


Your duties in the role will be to:

  • Maintain an effective control and reporting system regarding purchases, requirements/levels
  • Maintaining accurate and efficient Purchasing records
  • Run and analyse stock shortage reports, and take action as necessary
  • Ongoing review of stock holding policies and requirements including review of product min/max levels
  • Placing and monitoring progress of all equipment stock orders, performing an expediting function where required
  • Reconcile order confirmations from vendor with original orders including part numbers, order quantities, unit prices and delivery dates
  • Recording, in SAP, details of goods ordered and received, costs of products and supplier information and monitoring ongoing vendor performance with regard to cost, quality, delivery and service standards
  • Participation in forecasting meetings
  • Continually liaising with Marketing, Sales, Technical and Customer Service departments, to ensure purchasing activities effectively support their requirements
  • Liaising with US and Australian warehouses on parts cross referencing activities
  • Accepting and adhering to all OHSW responsibilities, policies, procedures and safe work practices related to the position

Skills & Experience

You must possess:

  • A minimum of 5 years purchasing experience
  • Tertiary or APICS qualifications are highly desirable
  • An understanding of MRP processes is essential
  • SAP experience is highly desirable
  • Excellent PC and ‘Microsoft Office’ literacy
  • Sound financial awareness and business acumen
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to establish effective business relationships with internal and external partners
  • Ability to communicate on all levels of management
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to influence others and implement change
  • Understanding of OH&S principles
