The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) is a world leader in global business intelligence. We help businesses, the financial sector and governments to understand how the world is changing and how that creates opportunities to be seized and risks to be managed.

At our heart is a 50 year forward look, a global forecast of the majority of the world’s economies, we seek to analyse the future and deliver that insight through multiple channels and insights, allowing our clients to make better trading, investment and policy decisions.

We’re changing. We’re embedding alternate data sources such as GPS and satellite data into our forecasting, products will increasingly be tailored to individual clients, providing some of the most innovative data in the market. A highly collaborative team of Product Managers, Customer Experience and Product Engineering is being created with a focus on creating business and customer value.

Can you:

  • Execute the functional and non-functional testing for all Web applications.
  • Execute the internal regression testing process to ensure no existing business functionality is affected by feature development
  • Apply team-based standards for testing tools and techniques and advise on their application
  • Ensure your testing approach will be exploratory and risk based, favouring the discovery and communication of information over the creation of test artefacts
  • Create reports on test results and software product quality
  • Execute test estimation
  • Work with developers to help them become better testers
  • Help us to identify improvements to testing and quality processes across your immediate product team, but also across the rest of technology
  • Works within, and encourages a Devops culture and Continuous Delivery process.
  • Works within agile cross-functional product teams

The ideal skills for this role include:

  • In-depth experience of test planning, analysis and scripting. Hopefully you’ll know how to create a test strategy
  • Experience of testing within an agile team
  • Applying testing efforts, execution, and reporting, across multiple concurrent projects.
  • You’ll probably have experience as a ‘manual tester’ but realise the limitations of this approach and be proactive in use and promoting automated testing techniques.
  • You are a champion of quality and understand how it can be improved at every stage of software development.
  • The ability to define and iterate a test approach.
  • Experience solving complex problems/issues.
  • Experience in challenging technical approaches and adding business value

To succeed in this role it would be an advantage if you possess:

  • Understanding of BDD or TDD testing approach
  • Experience with Continuous Delivery
  • An understanding of how testing is essential for a development team to be agile in delivery, and how it facilitates continual deployment
  • Knowledge of issue tracking and wiki style tools. We use Jira and Confluence in the Atlassian Cloud.
