Cepheid develops and manufactures medical devices.  We lease over 700,000 square feet of real estate with over 2700 employees in 13 countries.  The company is vertically integrated and utilizes diverse facilities to meet laboratory, manufacturing, office and logistics requirements.  Rapid growth and continued improvements to process require continuous and rapid adaptation of Facilities and EHS practices.

The Senior Director of Facilities and Real Estate leads a team responsible for managing Cepheid’s Environmental Health and Safety program, Security Program, and Building Management of all company owned and leased properties.  Based at the company’s U.S. headquarters, the Senior Director manages a team of 20+ staff members and has “dotted-line” relationships with Facilities and EHS staff at other domestic and international sites.  Using a deep understanding of the business priorities, this person develops strategic and tactical plans to enable the continued growth of the company through efficient acquisition and utilization of real estate.  She or he will apply best known methods to drive continuous improvement in EHS, Security and Facilities performance metrics.  The Senior Director analyzes financial information to plan and manage global facilities.  This person acts as a role model to their team and will be able to influence decision making throughout the organization.


  • Develop, update and execute a five-year strategic plan for global facilities.
    • Lead Green-field build-out of multi-million dollar manufacturing facilities in several low-cost regions and California.
    • Build-out of significant office space expansion in Sunnyvale, CA area.
    • Complete and manage global Business Continuity Plans (Business impact analysis, crisis management, recovery plans).
    • Develop a global company communication strategy with HR.  Communicate facilities progress quarterly with global associates. 
  • Manage day-to-day facilities operations
    • Plans, budgets, and schedules facility modifications, including estimates on equipment, labor, materials and other related costs
    • Manage global leases for offices, distribution centers and factories.
    • Achieve facilities KPI’s related to on-time project completion and cost.
    • Manage security team (access control, camera systems, investigations and policy development)
    • Partner with functional leaders to understand space requirements, develop detailed monthly plans and execute.
  • Deliver best-in-class EH&S programs
    • Partner with Danaher EH&S department to develop proactive EH&S programs and policies (chemical safety, ergonomics, illness and injury prevention and building safety).
    • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations pertaining to environmental safety and manages communication with appropriate agencies
    • Reduce yearly recordable safety incidents and lost-time metrics.
    • Zero findings during external audits from outside agencies.
    • Develops and oversees company training programs for employees in areas such as compliance training, lab/plant inspection, hazardous material handling, emergency response, industrial hygiene, and life safety
    • Develops Emergency Response Plans and acts as point of contact for emergency personnel.
    • Manage Worker’s Compensation Program.
  • Build a high-performing global team.
    • Oversee the development of all associates on team.  Manage the white-spaces on the talent assessment matrix, insuring clear succession plans through ready-now internal candidates.  Success is measured by 75% of key position filled internally.
    • Achieve 5% attrition.
    • Lead through influence when interacting with global partners.  Provide significant functional policie
