This is accomplished across four geographic management zones which are responsible for the operation of acute care health centres and the provision of a variety of inpatient, outpatient services including academic, tertiary, quaternary care and community based programs and services including continuing care, primary health care, public health, and mental health and addictions.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Health Services Manager or delegate, the Booking Clerk contributes to the effective operation of the General Internal Medicine Clinic by assisting in the general organization and patient flow and efficiency of the clinic. The booking clerk performs clerical and administrative duties following hospital policies and procedures while maintaining a high standard of maturity and discretion in handling confidential matters. The booking clerk will schedule patients for clinics visits, contacting them via phone or mail as required, with their appointment information.

Qualifications

  • Grade XII plus one year related experience or graduation from a recognized secretarial / office administration / business program
  • Computer skills (MS Office, email and internet) Minimum typing speed of 45wpm preferred
  • Well developed organizational and priority setting skills, ability to multitask
  • Proficiency using STAR and PHS preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology specific to General INternal Medicine an asset
  • Must be able to function independently in a high volume and highly pressurized ambulatory care setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated verbal communication, accuracy and speed skills
  • Judgement and ability to appropriately handle confidential information
  • Ability to learn and work quickly and be adaptable to change
  • Competencies in other languages preferred, French an asset

Hours of Work

*Permanent, part-time 50% FTE position; 35 hours bi-weekly

*Rotational shifts and shift duration

Salary Information

$19.5989 - $21.3748 hourly

This is a Admin Professionals NSGEU Off and Cler bargaining unit position. Preference is given to bargaining unit employees for unionized positions.
