Job Description

Genics is seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join their Brisbane based team. Genics provides pathogen detection services to the national and international prawn farming industries. Using your skills in molecular diagnostics and test development, you will be responsible for establishing new pathogen detection PCR tests that compliment Genics platform test technologies and services. Your role will extend to real-world commercial data, being responsible for preparing client reports from Genics platform test technologies, Shrimp MultiPath sensitive and Shrimp MultiPath quantitative.

Your responsibilities will include

  • Design of PCR tests for diagnosis of new and emerging pathogens, initially in prawns and salmon, to be compatible with Genics platform technologies
  • Validation of diagnostic tests for concordance, specificity and sensitivity
  • Design and implementation of sampling protocols for tissue pooling and non-conventional tissue types for pathogen diagnostics
  • Interpretation and analysis of data generated from real-world clinical samples and preparation of client reports

Location: Brisbane (St Lucia), QLD, Australia

Salary: AU $60-70K plus superannuation dependant on experience

Tenure: Full-time

Requirements

Target experience you will need

  • Experience working independently in a laboratory environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in PCR test design and validation
  • Experience in various PCR and downstream workflow analysis methods including gel electrophoresis and real-time PCR
  • Experience in molecular laboratory procedures including but not limited to nucleic acid extraction, reverse transcription, PCR, cloning, sequencing and relevant data analysis
  • Experience in PCR amplification and detection of SNP and/or microsatellite markers for genotyping using sequencing and/or mass spectrophotometry
  • Knowledge and experience with current NGS platforms and compatible chemistries and how to apply these to discover novel commercially impactful pathogens
  • Experience in data analysis and report writing for clients
  • Experience in a technical marketing capacity, understanding a customer’s requirements, finding, offering and delivery of complete solutions
  • Experience in NATA accreditation and audits
  • Demonstrated history of compliance with organisational OHS&E requirements
  • A valid driver’s licence and the ability to travel when required
