Status: Temporary Full-time (1 year contract)

University Health Network (UHN) is a research hospital affiliated with the University of Toronto and a member of the Toronto Academic Health Science Network. The scope of research and complexity of cases at UHN have made it a national and international source for discovery, education and patient care. Research across UHN's five research institutes spans the full spectrum of diseases and disciplines, including cancer, cardiovascular sciences, transplantation, neural and sensory sciences, musculoskeletal health, rehabilitation sciences, and community and population health. 

We are seeking an individual to join the Cell Manufacturing Team within the Tumor Immunotherapy Program (TIP) at the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The Team’s focus is the manufacturing of immune effector cells for clinical trials such as gene-engineered T cells. The Team also contributes to various basic and preclinical research projects in the field of cancer immunotherapy. Thus, the individual will have the opportunity to develop a range of skills related to cell and gene therapy development and manufacturing. For manufacturing projects, the individual will contribute to bench operations and also to documentation and quality assurance activities related to the manufacture of cell and gene therapy products that will be administered to patients enrolled in clinical trials. These activities conform to regulatory requirements, and the individual will operate under a quality management system.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Processing human tissues and blood
  • Performing cell culture procedures such as transduction, expansion and cryopreservation
  • Performing cellular and molecular assays
  • Operating specialized cell processing equipment
  • Adhering to SOPs and maintaining documentation of procedures according to GDP
  • Performing general lab maintenance activities
  • Performing quality control testing
  • Analyzing data
  • Supporting facility management, including facility maintenance, biosafety protocols, and environmental monitoring
  • Supporting equipment management, including on-boarding, maintenance, and coordinating repairs
  • Authoring, performing, and analyzing validations, verifications, and qualifications
  • Supporting materials management, including ordering, receiving, release, and inventory management
  • Documentation of deviations, participating in investigations and trending, and implementation of CAPAs
  • Authoring and revising SOPs, and supporting document management and change control activities
  • Liaising with third party service providers
  • Other responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications:

  • At minimum B.Sc. in biological sciences, immunology or related field (M.Sc. preferred)
  • Minimum three (3) years of related experience
  • Demonstrated technical skills in cell culture and in vitro immunological assays
  • Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices is an asset
  • Experience in cell and gene therapies is an asset
  • Detail-oriented and well organized
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Flexible work schedule, may include after hours or weekends on occasion
