The Principal RF Engineer is responsible for managing the evolving complexity of Casa Systems’ wireless products from a radio perspective. This includes liaison with customers and product managers, assessing market requirements and system level architecture, design, validation, and manufacturing to ensure Casa Systems’ wireless products are completed in accordance with all relevant radio requirements and technology.
The Principal RF Engineer is responsible for balancing the trade-offs between performance, features, size and cost (design, tooling and build) of products for Casa System’s customers and end users.


  • Identify and document customer requirements for the wireless elements of Casa Systems radio based products.
  • Attends, contributes, and leads customer meetings related to wireless topics and assesses/formulate requirements.
  • Can “think on their feet” and discuss complicated RF issues with customers, product owners and other engineers authoritatively authoritatively.
  • Provides subject matter expert advice and feedback to internal and external stakeholders on all RF related topics relevant to our industry, technology, products, and regulatory environment.
  • Balances the needs of the customers with the strategic goals of Casa System’s product and platform roadmap and then leads Product system level architecture and design.
  • Balances trade-offs between RF performance, size, cost (design, tooling and unit) to build the best possible product suitable for Casa System’s customers and end users.
  • Continuous review and contribution to company product and platform roadmap with respect to wireless product lines.
  • Ensures designs and technology are re-usable and modular to meet present and future needs across multiple products and product families.
  • Research latest manufacturing and design techniques to ensure Casa Systems products use market leading innovation and technology.
  • Develops relationships with third party technology vendors to understand, guide and lead design and integration where appropriate.
  • Makes smart decisions about the use of third-party technology, materials, and labor to unlock best possible products, technology, or product development scale.
  • Leads technical investigation and resolution of RF related issues/defects arising from validation, field testing, manufacturing, or field faults.
  • Prototype, test, and document new emerging designs prior to committing to product roadmap to ensure technical decisions are sound.
  • Influence and advise on RF design goals’ technical suitability with the leadership team and the product/program managers.
  • Understand and review detailed and complex telecommunications regulations and understand implications prior to the design to ensure we adhere to strict performance criteria.
  • Collaborate effectively with the RF Manager to formulate sensible design parameters.
  • Conduct RF module reviews with the Hardware team.
  • Interface, influence and instruct module vendors on suitable design criteria matching product business requirements.
  • Participate in antenna and RF module integration review to ensure system is fit for purpose, providing key “big picture” insights before committing on the design release.
  • Perform and mentor teammates during RF test and debug activities using relevant equipment and techniques.
  • Develop or acquire innovative test systems to allow internal performance verification.
  • Review and theorise the electrical and mechanical design impacts to RF performance including antenna pattern, TRP and TIS performance.


  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering or similar – emphasis on RF.
  • Relevant experience in RF design and development.
  • Familiar with Telecommunications standards (e.g. 3GPP).
  • Experience in customer negotiations and relations.
  • Experience with small multi-antenna systems.
  • Experience with world-wide regulatory requirements.
  • Proficient in the use of RF test equipment like CMW-500, spectrum analysers, VNA etc.
  • Advanced understanding of antenna design.
  • Experience with cellular modem design preferred.
  • Experience or exposure to 5G mmWave preferred.
