Golder is looking for a Principal Toxicologist and Risk Assessor to join our Contaminated Sites Team with over 30 specialists, full-time based in Perth. You will be part of a national risk assessment team and global technical community that supports hydrogeologists, modellers, aquatic scientists, hazmat specialists, remediation engineers, landfill engineers, auditors and risk assessors. You will lead toxicological, human health risk assessment and public health projects across various industries such as, government, manufacturing, urban renewal, infrastructure, mining and oil and gas opportunities across Perth and throughout Australia.

Your role will be key to delivering strategic and risk based outcomes for our clients across all sectors.

Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Providing input and leadership into the strategy, direction and strategic growth for the risk assessment and toxicology team in Perth and Australia;
  • Leading project teams on toxicology and public health projects and providing technical direction on medium to large projects so they are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to client and Golder’s standards;
  • Providing direction and review of technical reports in human health risk assessment, rapid (response) risk assessment and public health;
  • Providing technical development and mentoring of junior staff nationally and locally; 
  • Managing client relationships including development of relationships with new clients and business opportunities;
  • Participating in industry groups and/or expert panels as part of maintaining a high industry profile;
  • Liaising with specialists from other disciplines or offices within Golder Associates; and
  • Embracing and leading a strong health, safety and environment culture.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

  • A relevant post graduate qualification in toxicology, public health or a similar field, as well as 15+ years’ consulting industry experience (preferred) in toxicology, human health risk assessment and public health; 
  • Extensive knowledge of toxicology, public health assessments and human health risk assessments related to chemical and microbial risks;
  • DABT (desirable) or potential to seek toxicological certification; 
  • High industry profile within the public health, regulatory and toxicology/risk practice areas; 
  • Experience with of Australian chemical regulatory frameworks (eg NICNAS, APVMA,) and providing expert testimony at hearings;
  • Ability to lead human health risk assessments for environmental assessments, chemical assessments and other projects; and
  • Experience in developing and maintaining client relationships as well as high level project and project team management skills (preferred).
