Job Description

Monitor, administer, evaluate and coordinate company safety and health programs to provide a safe work environment for all personnel. Identify hazardous workplace conditions, eliminate hazards and protect personnel by guarding, revising work procedures, and/or requiring use of protective clothing. Provide safety compliance and safe work practices training as needed/required. Take effective steps to ensure workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state occupational safety and health standard provisions; ensuring all required records are prepared and maintained. Participate in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any procedures that may follow a citation. Investigate, prepare, and forward all reports on injuries, near misses and vehicle incidents. Participate in and capture Safety Leading Indicators; provide monthly performance reports to Corp HQ ES&H.

Essential Job Functions: (Performs other duties as assigned)

  1. Manage, implement, and monitor the Safety and Health (S&H) program in a specific business area.
  2. Be the designated SSHO (Site Safety & Health Officer) for the project/location; and perform all SSHO duties as identified within the Army Corps 385-1-1 Safety and Health Manual.
  3. Ensure location(s) are compliant with all company S&H policies, procedures, and practices.
  4. Implement and coordinate company S&H programs, including policy and procedure, training, hazard analysis, audit, recordkeeping, and inspection.
  5. Resolve compliance problems, questions, or complaints received from within the company, customers, government regulatory agencies, etc.
  6. Perform inspections to ensure workplace conditions and work practices conform to all S&H standards and best practices. Monitor, evaluate, and report metrics to measure status and progress.
  7. Ensure all workplace conditions and practices comply with applicable federal, state, local and customer/client, and Company S&H standards and regulations.
  8. Perform injury and incident investigations, prepare corresponding reports, and manage to closure.



Required Experience

Education & Experience: (or equivalent)

  • 5 years of satisfactory experience in preparing and enforcing the Contractor’s safety program on contracts of similar size and complexity in the past.
  • Fully knowledgeable of all safety requirements associated with the project.
  • Effective interpersonal, oral and written communication.
  • Intermediate skill using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Effective analytical and administrative skills.
  • Speak, read, and comprehend English to the extent that they can read and understand printed regulations, detailed written orders, operating procedures, training instructions and materials.
  • OSHA 30hr training completed within the past 5 years and having maintained competency through having taken 8 hours of Safety & Health related training each year
  • Desired - BCSP, ASSE, and NSC certification(s); trained in TapRooT Root Cause Analysis and Incident Investigation; ISO 18001/14001 Lead Auditor certification
