Naval Ship Management (Australia) Pty Ltd (NSM) is a joint venture between Babcock International Group and UGL Pty Limited which provides asset management solutions to the Australian maritime sector.  NSM has recently been selected as the LHD Asset Class Prime Contractor (ACPC) by the Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG) to become the asset steward for the Royal Australian Navy’s two Landing Helicopter Docks (LHD), twelve LHD Landing Craft (LLC) and associated assets commencing from mid-2019.
NSM has a proud history supporting the ANZAC class frigates where we currently undertake planning, scheduling, management and execution of preventative and corrective maintenance on the east and west coasts of Australia.
The Opportunity
If you are for ready for your next challenge the LHD Program has a position available for an experienced System Safety Engineer join our team based on Garden Island, NSW.
You will be responsible for optimising safety within the constraints of operational effectiveness, time and cost throughout the system’s life cycle. The System Safety Officer is responsible for assuring the LHD Assets are kept in a safe and reliable state of operation in accordance with the requirements of the Defence Seaworthiness Management System. This includes the assurance that safety risks are identified, analysed, evaluated and appropriately mitigated and managed
Responsibilities of the role
  • Provide System Safety engineering advice and review System Safety engineering documentation
  • Undertake/assist hazard risk analyses in relation to faults, defects, deviations and part substitution.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of the engineering function
  • Provide assurance that appropriate engineering controls are in place and are effective consistent with the requirements of Australian Naval Publication Suite
  • Conduct tasking as directed by the Seaworthiness & Engineering Assurance Manager
Skills and experience
To be the successful candidate for this position you will ideally have:
  • Relevant tertiary or degree qualifications, preferably technical or vocational specific
  • Previous experience with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and/or the Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG)
  • Proficient in strategic and analytic skills with broad system competence
  • Experience in a similar environment
  • Ability to collaborate as part of a supportive high-performing team
  • Excellent Communication skills.
A requirement for the position is to be an Australian Citizen and eligible to hold an Australian Defence security clearance.
