The Role – Safety Specialist
The Location – Knoxville, TN

PURPOSE:
The Safety Specialist works with the SiteOne Safety Team and field leaders to ensure our associates are meeting the SiteOne core value of being “always safe.” Under supervision of the Safety Manager, the Safety Specialist implements, manages, and monitors safety programs, policies, and procedures that meet OSHA standards, FMCSA regulations and other applicable requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Maintain current safety policies and update as needed to reflect current regulations
+ Assist with development of bi-weekly branch safety training and monthly Safety newsletters
+ Monitor training completion for safety programs, communicate training requirements, and follow-up to ensure compliance
+ Conduct routine and non-routine inspections and branch assessment to ensure compliance with SiteOne policy and applicable regulations
+ Investigate serious accidents and/or incidents of injury or property damage as well as near misses to determine root cause and need for corrective action
+ Work with safety team and field leadership to develop and implement strategies to prevent injuries
+ Utilize safety management software to track all incidents and injuries through investigation phase and ensure corrective actions are completed
+ Collaborate with field leaders and safety team to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local department of transportation requirements
+ Complete monthly OSHA reports, analyze data, and interpret injury trends to guide training and equipment needs
+ Manage equipment training by ensuring new hires and acquisition associates are properly trained by experienced associates
+ Manage additional local and state licensing programs as required

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
+ Skilled in performing safety inspections ensuring compliance with OSHA safety standards.
+ Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations
+ Skilled in developing safety procedures and protocols.
+ Knowledge of federal, state and local safety regulations, protocols, and/or procedures.
+ Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical personnel.
+ Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports.
+ Ability to develop, implement, and enforce safety programs and protocols.
+ Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
+ Bachelor's degree preferred or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
+ 5+ years of experience directly related to the safety duties and responsibilities specified.
+ 5+ years of experience in safety regulations, analysis, and reporting.
+ Previous distribution industry experience preferred.
