The candidate will join the Lead Evaluation and Cellular Pharmacology team, to develop cutting-edge approaches for the identification of small molecule therapeutics for various disease indications, including Oncology, Immunology, Infectious Diseases, Neuroscience, and Cardiovascular and Metabolic Diseases. S/he will work in an exciting, interdisciplinary environment, across the different stages of lead discovery pipeline, by interacting with several internal and external groups. The candidate should be highly self-motivated and can work independently. Responsibilities for the candidate include design and execution of cellular experiments and assays for the identification and characterization of small molecules, antibodies, peptides and nucleotide-and cell-based therapeutics. The candidate is expected to be able to critically analyze data and troubleshooting skills will be essential. S/he should demonstrate a sense of urgency, independency, be organized and adhere to sensitive timelines. The work location for the position is Beerse, Belgium Primary responsibilities (include, but are not limited to): Substantial hands-on work in designing, development, miniaturization and automation of cellular and biochemical experiments and assays Collaborate with stakeholders and business partners from all relevant functions and take the lead for scientific and technical programs Propose novel and actionable assay ideas, aligned with internal and external scientific strategies and demands Contribute to the elaboration and the execution of new methodologies and strategies applied to high throughput screening and activity profiling of small molecules in miniaturized format Keep up to date on literature related to his/her field. Act as an expert resource in her/his scientific field and related disciplines. Propose novel and actionable assay ideas, aligned with internal and external scientific strategies and demands Interpret, troubleshoot and report on complex/multidimensional data Present data in professional 'publication ready' format Qualifications Education: Ph.D. degree in Biology, Immunology, or Biochemistry or master’s degree with a minimal of 5 years of experience in drug discovery Related Experience: Required: Ability to perform proper cell/tissue culture and experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques (e.g., microscopy, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry, mass cytometry, transfections, transductions, RNAi and CRISPR/Cas9, qRT-PCR, western blotting, luminescence -based assays, cytokine assays, multiplex transcription assays) Strong capabilities to collaborate with scientists in multiple disciplines. Scientific knowledge in one or more fields of Oncology, Neuroscience, Immunology, Infectious disease Basic statistical knowledge and experience with data analysis software (e;g; Genedata Screener, FlowJo, Cytobank, Spotfire, Graphpad Prism) Preferred: Proven background in drug discovery with a track record of contributing to projects involving various target classes and technologies Experience with isolation and culturing primary cells and development of functional cellular assays Experience with complex cellular systems (organoids, iPSc) Experience with high throughput liquid handlers and lab automation Expertise in high dimensional data analysis Personal skills and Competencies: Intellectually curious and well-informed on the latest scientific advances in the field Demonstrates creativity and novel approaches to solving scientific problems Works independently and towards high quality standards Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage several projects simultaneously Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with people, internally and externally Detail-oriented, with excellent record-keeping skills Excellent oral and written communication skills. Able to effectively present scientific data and concepts to international standards.
