Scientist, Protein Research Food Research, Archer Daniels Midland Company, Decatur, IL This is an exempt-level position. Position Summary This position requires technical competence in designing and executing lab and pilot scale experimental trials and interpreting data to provide guidance in developing protein nutrition solutions for the food and beverage industry. The prospective applicants will have understanding in food chemistry including protein – protein interactions in different matrices (meat alternative, dairy alternative, specialized nutrition), structure-function properties of food proteins, and unit operations involved in protein ingredient manufacturing including separation technologies, enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation. Main Responsibilities
Design and conduct bench and pilot scale experiments, interpret and summarize data, and create technical presentations and reports.
Manage projects in a matrixed type organization to deliver results in a timely manner.
Engage with internal and external partners for new product and process discovery and for improving existing products/processes.
Transform new product/technology from research to operations team and ensure- (1) successful scale-up, (2) meeting product target specifications; (3) delivering on timelines and customer needs.
Collaborate cross-functionally with research leaders and business stakeholders.
Support external communications while working with technical and marketing colleagues.
Support trade shows, web-based technical seminars/presentation, and white paper publications to promote ADM ingredients and ingredient solutions.
Understand design of experiments, lab proof-of-concept work and product scale-up.
Communicate effectively within a matrixed team environment, including research, operations, marketing and commercial leadership.
Ability to draw valid scientific conclusions based on data and established facts.
Create technical knowledge by digitalizing and documenting the technical data on new and existing products and processes.
Collaborate with peers and team members and deal effectively with the cross functional teams.
Understand basic quality management systems, product specifications and corrective and preventative actions related to complaint resolution/customer feedback.
Monitor project progress on assessing overall feasibility, budget and timeline.
Education and Industry Experience Requirements
Master’s degree in Food Science, Food Chemistry, Food Engineering, or any related field or bachelor degree + 3-5 y of experience in a technical role in an R&D organization specializing in food ingredients.
Knowledge and experience with food ingredients manufacturing and or protein based foods and beverages.
Experience in interacting with peers and leaders of the organization.
