Job Description & SummaryA career within Deals Business Recovery Services, will provide you with the opportunity to support our clients survive an imminent crisis or simply fix gaps in their organisation. We help clients, reduce balance sheet stress, generate cash and reduce costs or refinance to find the best source of capital to support their business objectives. Whatever the solution, we help them manage challenges until the job is done.
Important points to consider
Location: Please note, the role is currently remote, but will eventually be based in our Toronto downtown office as government regulations allow, with optional partial remote working.
CPA designation support eligibility: This role doesn’t support completion of the Canadian CPA designation.
What you’ll create and do
In Canada, the Business Recovery Services practice goes to market as Corporate Advisory and Restructuring (CAR).
As a Senior Associate, you’ll work as part of a team of problem solvers with extensive financial advisory, turnaround consulting and industry experience, helping our clients solve their complex business issues from strategy to execution. We work with stakeholders of companies facing financial and liquidity challenges, helping to evaluate and support delivery of turnaround and restructuring plans that preserve value and promote future growth. This includes working with our Value Creation colleagues on operations improvement and cash optimization opportunities, as well as core mandates for financial restructuring and use of strategic mechanisms in the CAR practice.
While the nature of our engagements depends on the economic environment and specific cases that arise, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of mandates, including:
Business reviews and monitoring engagements;
Development of restructuring strategies;
Formal creditor restructuring proceedings, including acting as monitor under Companies’ Creditors Arrangement Act (CCAA) and proposal trustee under the Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act (BIA);
Creditor recovery mandates, including court and privately appointed receiverships;
Distressed Merger & Acquisition and financing engagements;
Financial model development and review, leveraging PwC’s network of data transformation experts;
Other statutory appointments including bankruptcy matters, wind-ups, liquidations and interim receiverships.
You’ll be working collaboratively with teams across Deals and other PwC lines of service in connection with client mandates and business development opportunities.
Although your primary focus area will be the CAR practice, there is an expectation that the successful candidate will work across multiple competency areas within the Deals practice. This could include assisting the Value Creation, Corporate Finance, Valuations or Transaction Due Diligence teams.

Professional accounting designation
Experience in a professional services or business advisory environment at the Senior Associate level. We promote having diverse experience and skills reflected within our team
Excellent accounting, financial analysis and financial modelling and project management skills, including working concurrently on multiple projects
Excellent analytical, problem solving and communication skills, both verbal and written
Responsiveness to live issues that arise on time-sensitive mandates
A commitment to continuous learning, including pursuing the Chartered Insolvency Restructuring Professional (CIRP) designation provided by the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP)
Solid client relationship development and business development abilities
Flexibility to travel with little notice when situations require, or to work remotely with teams in different parts of the country depending on the nature and location of mandates
