ERM is looking for a driven and experienced SeniorConsultant to join the Contaminated Land Management team in Brussels or Antwerp. You will be the technical expert for human health / ecological risk assessment and groundwater modelling in the framework of soil and groundwater investigation and remediation projects end environmental impact studies throughout (mainly) Belgium and the Netherlands, for ERM global and regional key clients. ERM’s Contaminated Land Management Services are aimed at helping clients resolve environmental liabilities and realize maximum value from their contaminated land challenges. We strive to develop risk-based soil and groundwater remediation strategies to protect human health and ecology, whilst satisfying our clients’ business goals and meeting regulatory obligations. We manage their risks and clean up their balance sheets, while keeping a close eye on costs and managing stakeholders’ expectations. Our global services include site investigation, risk assessment, remediation and redevelopment strategy development and implementation to help capture value from our clients’ active facilities and discontinued operations across the globe, supported by decommissioning and demolition services where needed.
Your main responsibilities will be:
As a Senior Consultant, provide technical expertise in the fields of risk assessment and groundwater modelling for our projects in Belgium and the Netherlands (BeNe). Tasks include but are not limited to:
Risk evaluation in the framework of site investigations
Developing risk-based soil and groundwater remediation targets
Performing vapour intrusion risk assessments
Developing groundwater and contaminant plume migration models for complex sites
Groundwater modelling in the framework of environmental impact assessments (EIAs)
Ensure the most suitable technical solutions are presented to the client, using both innovative / emerging techniques. Stay current and lead the adoption of innovative approaches to risk evaluation and groundwater modelling.
Be the subject matter expert who keeps the BeNe team up-to-date on the latest developments in risk assessment and groundwater modelling. Be the BeNe representative in ERM’s global Technical Community of Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment specialists.
Manage projects for ERM’s clients, typically in chemical, manufacturing and oil & gas industries. These projects involve complex site investigation and remediation programmes.
Work in close collaboration with other consultants, technical experts and partners in international teams to deliver these projects within client’s scope/budget/schedule expectations; ensure high quality and technical excellence.
Write complete technical reports and proposals; liaise with subcontractors to negotiate prices.
Build strong and effective working relationships with clients, project teams, other ERM services and business units (BU). Participate in business development with existing clients and identified leads to ensure own and BU sales targets are met.
Plan and oversee the work of (junior) colleagues and subcontractors.
Mentor junior staff and appropriately delegate project assignments to project team members.
Perform health and safety planning and oversight: ensure safety of oneself and team members during project operations.
Our ideal candidate:
Master or PhD degree in an environmental discipline such as earth sciences, environmental sciences, physical geography, hydrology/hydrogeology, geology, geochemistry, chemistry or similar.
6+ years’ experience as an environmental consultant with a main focus/interest on risk assessment and groundwater modeling in the framework of site investigations, remediation and/or EIAs.
Solid experience in groundwater modelling and human toxicological risk assessment, mastering both the scientific background as well as the software skills (e.g. S-Risk, Sanscrit, Groundwater Vistas, Modflow…)
In possession of the OVAM accreditation for groundwater modelers (or having the credentials to obtain it at short notice)
Good working knowledge of the contaminated land legislation in Belgium (Flanders, Brussels and Wallonia; the Netherlands is a definite plus)
Demonstrable track record in successful project management; confident in facing clients and regulators.
Native Dutch speaker, highly proficient in English (written and spoken), French is a plus.
Driven, eager-to-learn, able to multitask, open communicator, proactive in tackling problems and providing solutions, analytic mindset.
Thrives in a collaborative working environment but is also able to work independently.
Effective written and verbal communication, organization and analytical skills.
Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health and Safety protocols.
Is willing to travel for work from time to time to perform site visits, meet clients.
Has a driving license (B).
