Purpose of the Position: 

As a Senior Design & Research Manager, your job is to oversee the design process for the newly formed Design Center of Excellence and lead/deliver user research on behalf of the Product Design team to validate and inform design approach and hypothesis.  The Design Center of Excellence team was formed to centralise and strengthen design resources across internal publishing systems, customer facing products and go-to-market initiatives. Job Responsibilities:

Creative Process (50% of focus)

  • Serve as day-to-day contact for stakeholder creative requests 

  • Liaise with stakeholders across the company to understand scope of work and ensure these are clearly communicated within the design brief. Where provided briefs are insufficient, they will work with stakeholders to ensure they are complete, accurate and are accompanied with clear justification, targets and goals 

  • Ensure that all design material and work from Marcoms Design and Product Design flows efficiently

  • Responsible for cross-department and interdepartmental coordination, task prioritisation and ensuring project delivery according to deadlines

  • Responsible for reviewing creative work and providing feedback to ensure tasks are completed to a high standard and that the design deliverables meet the brief provided

  • Negotiate timeline and resources where applicable with stakeholders

  • Manage creative backlog and new requests, ensuring an efficient use of resource and effective allocation of tasks

  • Review creative assets to ensure brand guidelines are adhered to

  • Manages creative review and sign-off process

User Research (50% of focus)

  • Define research objectives, gather and organise user research data, explore data to uncover findings/themes/patterns, extract user insights and share insights with team

  • Responsible for designing and conducting user research, and identifying the best method based on research goals and resources. The individual will be responsible for all aspects of research including planning, execution, analysis and reporting. They will be responsible for both quantitative and qualitative research as-well-as both ongoing and ad-hoc research

  • They will be responsible for using a variety of testing methodologies in order to uncover actionable customer insights. You will be comfortable working with data, from gathering and analysis through to insight extraction and presentation

  • Planning, designing and conducting usability testing process from developing internal (diverse testing group) and external (e.g. user recruitment

  • Conducting research to gather insights for new product and feature developments including user requirements gathering and validation and prototype testing etc...

  • Working with Design leads and Product Managers as required to device suitable research strategies to generate focused insights and test/validate design hypothesis

  • Working closely with designers to turn user data in to actional product requirements that feed in to prototype designs and influence product direction

  • Ability to conduct competitor analysis

  • Presenting findings, recommendations and customer insights to Design and Product team

  • Promoting user centric design principles and best practices across the organisation

  • Candidate with less experience would be considered as Design & Research Manager

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in any discipline with strong Design, Product, Computer Science or related Engineering acumen
  • Product Management experience owning and leading large digital products/platform
  • At least 10 years of product management or equivalent consultant experience
  • Experience in and understanding of product design process from ideation and conception to prototyping to development to launch and post launch optimisation
  • Experience analysing both quantitative and qualitative data to produce UX insights
  • Ability to conceive and create simple user surveys
  • Understanding of Product Marketing including how to launch or communicate new product features to grow audience
  • Organized and methodical with proven project management experience, who can handle multiple simultaneous projects at various stages of completion
  • Able to demonstrate creativity, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills with excellent command of English
  • Experience extracting and interpreting user data 
  • Passion for media and/or news and what we are trying to achieve
  • Passion for good design with attention to detail

Work location will be at Causeway Bay office
