About the opportunity

Jacobs’ Environmental Science Section is a high performing team of professionals who deliver on complex and challenging projects. They work as a cohesive unit, enjoy what they do and are enthusiastic about it. The Section forms part of the Environmental, Spatial, Planning and Parks performance unit comprising more than 50 talented individuals across our four offices.

Due to sustained and exciting project work, our Wellington Team is recruiting for a Senior level Environmental Consultant (Water Science). They will be responsible for the delivery of professional environmental consulting services to clients in areas relating to surface water with a focus on water quality and environmental management.

Some of the responsibilities will include:
    • Providing senior level input and leadership in water quality and environmental management throughout New Zealand, with a focus on growth within the greater Wellington region
    • Maintain and build our environmental consulting pipeline in the greater Wellington region, liaising with business development & sales leads and assist with bid proposals and pursuit of Major Bids
    • Undertake a mentoring role for graduate consultants in the Jacobs practice, to continuously improve and expand quality and capability
    • Take accountability for internal and external client relationships, and maintaining long term relationships and associated workload
    • Project management of projects assigned and successful delivery to our clients
    • Develop and diversify Jacobs existing client base to secure ongoing work through client relationships
    • Input into business planning and team plans as required
About you

This position requires the following experience and qualifications:
  • Masters or Honours preferred
  • Bachelor of Science tertiary qualification and/or relevant technical qualification (i.e. Water Sciences, Environmental Science)
  • Previous exposure to projects of a multidisciplinary nature such as those covering infrastructure, environmental assessment, industry and development projects
  • Sound understanding of the Resource Management Act (RMA) and RMA processes including the NPS for Freshwater
  • Be cognisant of in the application of catchment scale approaches to freshwater limit setting and regional policy development
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to successfully prepare and deliver water quality assessments delivered through research studies, technical reports, modelling and RMA applications or submissions
  • Lead and contribute to the production of high quality AEEs related to water quality management and/or aquatic ecological effects in watercourses, lakes, wetlands and estuaries, both at a local and catchment scale
  • Perform assessment of stormwater quality effects on receiving waterways, and assisting our clients to obtain and renew their resource consents
