INPEX is currently seeking a Senior Geophysicist within the Australia Ventures Exploration Department. This Perth-based position will undertake petroleum exploration activities as a Senior Geophysical member of the Exploration Team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Geophysical interpretation and evaluation in the offshore Browse Basin, and other basins as required, with a focus on the generation and development of exploration plays, leads and prospects for drilling.  Prepare documents/reports.
  • Contribute to the creation and peer reviewing of initiatives and projects underway in the Exploration team, with specific emphasis on peer review and quality assurance of geophysical interpretation projects.
  • Provide expertise, peer review and assurance on depth conversion and quantitative interpretation studies in support of INPEX-operated, non-operated and new business exploration evaluations.
  • Preparation of predrill/post-drill geophysical documentation and analysis; provide geophysical support and monitoring during seismic and drilling operations.
  • Evaluate new venture opportunities as required, attend data reviews, provide reports, analyses and advice to the Manager Exploration Geophysics and/or GM Exploration.
  • Support and input as required into new seismic acquisition and seismic (re)processing projects.
  • Attend Operated and non-operated JV meetings, with report and provide advice to the Manager Exploration Geophysics and/or GM Exploration.
  • Plan, lead and supervise geophysical studies by external contractors.
  • Compile presentations and contribute to discussions with Regulator and JV’s.
  • Prepare technical submissions to Company management, JV’s and the Regulator.
  • Advise and assist the Manager Exploration Geophysics and/or GM Exploration and Geosciences on regional and permit strategy, and permit management
  • As a leading member of the geophysics group and Exploration as a whole, contribute materially to the ongoing development of the structure, systems, capability and ethos of the Exploration team.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance and leadership to less experienced geophysicists and other staff.
  • Support the Manager Exploration Geophysics and/or GM Exploration and Geosciences in designing, implementing and managing  annual exploration work programs and budgets

Key qualifications, skills and experience required:

  • Minimum requirement is Bachelor of Science (Geophysics) or similar geoscience degree.
  • At least 10 years of experience as a geophysicist in the petroleum exploration industry.
  • The role requires an up-to-date appreciation of the latest geophysical and geological techniques, with a high level of skill in geophysical interpretation, use of interpretation and mapping software, reporting and data recording systems
  • At least 10 years in the petroleum exploration industry with expertise in the appropriate earth science and petroleum exploration analysis and interpretation software applications.
