Goal of the position:

The Senior R&D Manager will lead several teams working on projects from early phase (VOC and definition of specs) through design into testing, validation and product launch on the market. The role will lead teams responsible for New Product Development and improvement projects on hardware and disposable devices for the Biopharmaceutical market and their related control systems for different product lines and technologies. Collaboration and building strategic relationships cross functionally is essential to ensure the product is launched on time and according to customer expectations. This position is the main driver behind implementation of DBS, engagement within the teams, focus on innovation and long term planning.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manages multiple departmental functions, plans and priorities to meet short-term service and/or operational challenges
  • Promotor of Danaher Business System tools.
  • Create an environment that boosts innovation.
  • Responsible for developing department annual budget (capital & expenses) and controlling spend.
  • Manage resource allocations within projects.
  • Enable collaboration between R&D and other departments.
  • Responsible for technical decisions of the team.
  • Responsible for timely delivery of projects according to New Product Development processes.
  • Lead multiple New Product Development projects simultaneously with high complexity and global impact.
  • Responsible for talent management to ensure the continued development for direct reports. Partner closely with the human resources organization in developing organizational capabilities through succession planning, organizational assessment, identification of key skill gaps, talent acquisition and talent development strategies that link with business goals.
  • Create a trusted relationship with team members. Understand what they value and support them in achieving their development goals. Coach the team to enhance their network and identify challenging / stretch roles or projects to support career progression.
  • Understand the performance and development planning process. Track performance progress against objectives, managing gaps with appropriate action plans.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Profile:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field. Master’s Degree or PhD preferred
  • 15 years of experience (at least 5 years of experience in managing people - directly or indirectly)
  • Experience with new product development
  • Experience in developing biopharma projects and working in a highly regulated industry
  • Knowledge of Financial modelling
  • Capable of translating customer needs to product requirements
  • Project Management skills
  • Proficient in English, Dutch is a plus
  • Capable of building credibility with customer, key opinion leaders, internal stakeholders
  • Open to innovation
