The Energy Operation division is responsible for leasing and maintaining Alberta’s Crown mineral rights and for calculating, assessing, collecting, and reconciling royalty revenues from natural gas, natural gas liquids, helium, conventional oil, oil sands, coal, and metallic and industrial minerals on behalf of Albertans. In addition, the division looks after Petrinex, which is a key volumetric reporting system for industry and western Canada.
The PNG Tenure Operations Branch facilitates leasing of Crown mineral rights that enable companies to develop Petroleum and Natural Gas (PNG), Geothermal or pore space rights owned by the Province of Alberta. A tenure agreement, or in some cases authorization, is required in order to undertake exploration, development or production activities and legislative requirements must be met in order to maintain tenure. The unit of Crown Equity, Sales, Business Support & Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) has a wide range of accountabilities, including PNG sales, trespass reviews and implementing CCUS tenure. This role is in the CCUS group and will focus on policy and operational support to implement CCUS tenure in Alberta.
Role Responsibilities
The Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) Implementation unit of PNG Tenure Branch has a permanent Senior Land Analyst (LA3) Position.
In PNG Tenure Operations, a Senior Land Analyst makes and contributes to decisions that have a direct impact on Alberta’s energy sector in Alberta. The primary responsibility of the Senior Land Analyst is to research, analyze and respond to industry requests. This includes reviewing applications to amend agreements in accordance with the applicable legislation, regulation, policy and procedures. The Senior Land Analyst also provides technical advice and expertise for the review and analysis of the agreements processed by the unit, which includes processing financial transactions.
Reporting to the CCUS Implementation Manager of the unit, the Senior Land Analyst is responsible for interpreting and applying multiple pieces of legislation when initiating or recommending CCUS decisions. The candidate must exercise sound discretion when responding to applications and inquiries from companies, and must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
The position plays a key role by assisting the Manager to foster a strong cohesive working team environment within the CCUS Implementation unit and to develop and maintain strong relationships with Alberta’s energy sector.

Qualifications
Minimum two-year diploma in a related field such as Land Administration or Business Administration, plus two years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
