Ashurst’s newly created Risk Advisory practice operates as an independent advisory function, and an adjacent function to the firm’s legal practices. Ashurst, Australia are looking to attract an outstanding candidate to join as an Executive. As an Executive, you will be an integral member of a team who will deliver non-financial risk data analytics consulting solutions to the financial services industry in Australia including, but not limited to, operational risk, regulatory risk, RegTech, risk transformation, compliance and conduct risk.

Within the Data & Analytics practice, we are looking for innovative, forward-thinking and talented individuals who have experience in delivering data-driven solutions to clients across any of the following domains: data strategy, data governance, data risk and assurance, data analytics, advanced analytics (e.g. AI and machine learning), reporting and visualization and intelligent automation.

An Executive will be responsible for building, managing and growing client relationships, leading and delivering enterprise risk solutions, as well as contributing to the growth and development of the Risk Advisory practice in Australia.

Main responsibilities:

  • Taking the lead in identifying, designing, developing and delivering data-driven risk management solutions to clients using a range of toolsets and methodologies
  • Building, managing and growing trusted client relationships with integrity by putting the client at the centre of service delivery by thinking differently and delivering fit-for-purpose and innovative solutions to respond to client needs
  • Developing, coordinating and leading multi-disciplinary teams
  • Working alongside client leadership teams to embed a proactive and dynamic risk management capability and mindset into corporate business practices, starting from the onset of strategic planning and extending through to implementation
  • Providing local and global market insight to support clients strategic planning with activities such as impact analysis, contingency planning or risk identification and mitigation initiatives
  • Managing the delivery of client engagements to ensure these are planned and delivered within budget and on time to the client’s need and to the highest standard
  • Leading and developing proposals for new client projects, supporting the development of service offerings and supporting go-to-market campaigns and initiatives
  • Promoting and supporting diversity and inclusion agendas, harmonising teams from a range of cultures and backgrounds across the region
  • Being bold in the market, driving activities to build the brand and win business adjacent to the core offerings of the firm
  • Driving ongoing growth in the business through the development of staff, leading practice building initiatives as well as key client and service offering responsibilities

Essential skills and experience:

  • 8+ years of relevant data & analytics experience in either a professional services firm or within industry
  • The ability to “Think Differently”, offering innovative solutions aligning to risk, regulation, operational resilience and digital disturbance
  • Proficiency in one or many data & analytics tools and platforms, including:
    • Analytics tools (e.g. SQL, SAS, R, Python, Alteryx)
    • Visualisation tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, Qlikview)
    • Governance tools (e.g. Collibra, Informatica, Talend)
    • Cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Experience in one or many of the following areas:
    • Data strategy
    • Data governance
    • Data risk and assurance
    • Data management
    • Data analytics
    • Advanced analytics (AI/ML)
    • Reporting and data visualisation
    • Intelligent automation
  • Strong knowledge of non-financial risk management including operational risk, regulatory risk, compliance and conduct risk
  • Strong commercial acumen, report writing and presentation skills
