About the role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager Risk & Compliance (Network Capability) to join our Retail Banking division in a permanent capacity at our Newstead office.

Reporting to the GM Retail Risk, this role is primarily responsible for ensuring processes and activities across the Retail Distribution Channels operate in line with the highest standards of compliance with both internal and external requirements.

This role will perform a key role in supporting customer facing employees and their leaders to ensure they are meeting their first line of defence obligations.

Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Management of the Branch Coaching Team and overall strategy to improve overall branch compliance and audit results.
  • Identification of early warning signs to address emerging issues and proactively manage risks. This includes regular analysis and reporting of coach, M&S and audit findings, as well as proactive engagement with the Retail Leadership Team.
  • Coordination of continuous improvement activities such as procedure reviews to drive better customer outcomes and compliance.
  • Delegation of Retail Banking procedures requiring regular review and approval.
  • Management of the Branch SMART program and wider control self-assessment process across the Branch Network.
  • Management of treatment actions identified via internal audit, risk register reviews, etc.
  • Assistance with ad hoc risk projects and initiatives, including preparation of papers for a variety of committees and forums.
  • May share responsibility of Retail Banking's Monitoring & Supervision activities, which are in place to provide confidence that compliance requirements are being met.

About you:

To be considered for this role, you should have strong experience in a similar role, with a demonstrable background in people leadership and coaching experience.

Tertiary qualifications in business, risk management or a finance related discipline, coupled with experience working in banking, finance or risk management will see you drive compliance across the division.

You should also be able to demonstrate experience and/or skills in the following:

  • Well-developed analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Knowledge of banking or finance processes and practices, and a working knowledge of operational risk management.
  • An understanding of banking specific regulatory legislation and compliance requirements.
  • Computer literate with superior skills in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as superior written and verbal communication skills.
  • Superior relationship building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with personnel across a wide variety of areas and organisational levels.
  • Ability to mentor others, including being recognised as a subject matter/technical expert
  • Ability to recommend and implement initiatives, develop new policies and procedures
